Let's face the fact that the press could've cared less about Lindsey and Chris. By that time, Chris and Lindsey had faded into obscurity; no one but die-hard fans cared about them. Stevie, however, was still doing a few things, but after the flop that was SA (even though it performed ten times better than OOTC) and her weight gain, The Dance was all about seeing if she still had it. The general public viewed the reunion as a chance to see Stevie, not Lindsey or Chris. By 1997, most people probably wouldn't have known Lindsey Buckingham from Adam.
Let's face the fact that most FM fans are fans because of Stevie. It's reflected in album sales and the amount of press she gets compared to everyone else. When someone gets wind that Stevie was spotted at a restaurant, alarms go off. Someone sees "that guitar player from that band," they're surprised but not much else. Lindsey's albums were always flops and Chris' didn't go platinum. It isn't necessarcily how I feel, but there is no denying that the majority feels that way.
When I speak of the majority, I mean casual listeners. Not people on this board (which represent a fraction of a fraction of the Mac fans) or the die-hard fans that are all dressed in Stevie regalia at the concerts who love EVERYTHING about the band.
Do you honestly think that the general public viewed the reunion as a chance to finally see Lindsey or Chris? I think not.
