The '75 version was not released as a single. Listen to the two versions back to back - so different. If we're going by album then the '75 version would not be constituted as a hit. Same thing with Silver Springs -- it was technically released as the B side of GYOW but wasn't a hit until The Dance.
I think a hit is anything that was released as a single and charted high. You can't call something a hit that only charted below the Top 20, unless we're just going by fan favorites and we're all so biased here... lol
