I agree completely. Tango basically broke Stevie's string of Mac albums with great Nicks songs. Christine's songs on Tango though are some of her strongest ever, so that (plus Lindsey turning in better songs than he had on Mirage) help save Tango.
My take is that after Rumours each of the Mac songwriters had an "off" album: For Christine it was Tusk, Lindsey's was Mirage and Stevie's was Tango.
