I'm inclined to agree with you, my friend. But if that's the case, it's really pretty appalling. It's such a shoddy way to treat a group that once--many, many years ago--seemed like a paragon of musical & marketing integrity in a sea of corporate cock-rock. I wouldn't expect 65-year-old performers to hustle the way they did in their late 20s. But this "Am I in or am I out?" crap became the sole marketing story for this band about 25 years ago, & that was a black day for the band's reputation for marketplace integrity.
Although at least back then, the band still registered on the hip scale. But to stick to that story when you're well past retirement time is to be a joke without a punchline---most people don't even know, & those that know don't give a damn.
