It's the singsongy nature of the chorus that overshadows the verses and all people remember is "tell me lies tell me sweet little lies". It's like molasses.

But I like the song and I actually think it has complexity -- not just musical complexity, but lyrically, the message makes me ache a little and it touches me because of when it was released in the band's life. So, I would never trade Little Lies for Songbird or Oh Daddy in a million years. I'd toss both of them out to keep it and I don't tire of hearing it. But I think it kind of ruined FM's life on a surface level as being the first thing that detractors seize upon. Even more so than Don't Stop.
