As far as I know, Stevie has never implied that her first time to rehab was involuntary. I don't believe rehabilitation works that way. I've read that there was some kind of an intervention but Stevie made the choice and paid the bill.
There appears to be some confusion about the actual time she went to Betty Ford. Stevie repeatedly states it was 1985, whereas, others say it was November of 1986 and it was mentioned on
Behind The Music(and also in Mick's book) that she received treatment in spring of 1987. For some reason, it has also been said that she was treated for alcohol-related problems, which she has denied. There is also speculation that she went to a rehabilitation facility in the 1980's more than once.
