This SA version of "Mirror Mirror" is interesting...and more elaborate. There are sections of it I like better, but overall its arrangement is longer & meandering, warmed over uninspired adult contemporary. Stevie made the right choice nixing Chris Lord -Alge as producer for the SA sessions!! He also wisely stuck to his strengths as a top mixer. This sounds like Stevie's OSOTM through Timespace tour band arrangements . Nothing spectacular here or there Mostly I miss Stevie and Waddy's (he's absent on this SA version) INTENSITY! But I do not miss the 5' O clock news syncopated rhythm of the RAL outtake. I've never minded that this is a story/prose song without anything really resembling a chorus ("Sara" anyone). This song had potential as a pure art piece, But BOTH versions/arrangements miss the mark, so it's not that hard to understand why they weren't picked for official release on her solo records. That said, "Mirror, Mirror" would have made a nice addition to her Enchanted box set's 3rd CD of rarities . Both recording "as is" would only be appreciated by die-hard fans. Most of us!
