I actually like the detachment that I think Stevie's background vocals add to the song. As a song about a person who has sunk into insanity, this one always reminded me of an old one by Helen Reddy,
Angie Baby. I like the murky music and then you put in a vocal for the chorus that sounds like it could be the schizophrenic voice in someone's head and I just love it.
If Christine's harmony would have made the song warmer, then I would have resisted that. I want it to stay cool and removed kind of, but it would have been interesting to see what qualities in the tune an arrangement that included her would have enhanced.
