Are those kids or not?
Okay, folks, did they get kids to sing on Say You Will or is Lindsey playing with his favorite toy, the VSO machine? What is your opinion?
|
it's a lindseyism!
I didn't really think that it was kids in the first place. If you listen to it when it begins to fade out, it's starts to get really strange, almost like the "alvin and chipmunks factor". I'm still trying to figure that one out, but my first inclination was to think that Lindsey did something tripped out to stevies voice, effects-wise. Maybe some sort of pitch bend or something. It could be a combination of factors, but I really don't think it's kids. I think it's Stevie.

Girl
The VSO can do a high pitch effect but smurf-ish, and coupled with modulation and delay effects we have the typical TITN voice sound (though I'd love to know which models Lindsey uses), but no way it can sound like a so realistic child as SYW. it sounds like a perfect real girl to me with no effects.

I think its Jesse Nicks, Stevie little niece who would around 10 years old by now.....and that voice sounds about 10ish. What I cant figure out is why its uncredited. and that bugs me about the liner notes...there is no mention of what musicians played on what songs....I hear a piano underneath all those guitar layers on the Say you will verses...is that Sheryl Crow?? ( btw I think this song would be even more awesome as a jangly piano song ala "enchanted")...but that's definetley her on the last chorus ad-libs.

I was assuming "tell those brats to shut up" meant - you thought that kids were on the song... cause I think so!
|
Yeppers...
I voted for the kids. I have listened on headphones and everything and tried to hear some kind of manipulation, but I really can't. I think it's kids, but if it's not, then BRAVO LINDSEY for making Stevie, Sheryl, himself, whoever sound THAT way!!!!! You genius you!!
|
I think...
those vocals are "rug-rats"...er brats...Brian J.
|
Just listened to it again...
I pressed my headphones to my ears and I kept thinking to myself, if that IS Stevie ala VSO, her voice is WAY high, and with her low and nasly voice, it would take ALOT of fiddling with that machine to make her sound like Mickey Mouse...so I am sticking with the brats or rugrats..thanks Brian!

I am voting for the munchkins...cause if you listen hard..it sounds like more than one little kid..and it just sounds too damn human to be VSO..

Let me solve this debate definitively.I played the song for a Physical Anthropologist friend of mine down at Stanford .She is an expert in primate communications .What we are hearing are Aye-Ayes a fairly rare member of the Lemur family found only on the island of Madagascar.I wondered how Stevie got them to perform and then I remembered she does know Jane Goodall!

personally, i think they all got ahold of some helium balloons, lol, and had some fun! ;)  :D

OMG, Greta, I was going to say the same thing!!! ROFL!!

Well I still maintain the non-kids theory. But another likely possibility is that it is kids, but with voice correction applied to perfect their pitch in line with the melody Lindsey wanted.
Cause there is definitely *something* unnatural about their voices I'm hearing. But maybe that's what little girls sound like in America? ;) |
That Lindsey, he fool you!
|
I think...
It's a chorus of children. Why, I don't know. It's not exactly a childlike song. I don't get it.
