Gold Dust Woman Versions Question
I have a question about GDW.
I've had the CD version of Rumours for like 7 years now. There is definitely the glass breaking toward the end of it. In the DVD-A, the band acts like it's a new thing for the glass to be included on it. I also have an album of Rumours, and it is not on there. So, I figured that just the CD version, and not the LP version, got the glass breaking, and since the band was most invloved with the LP version, maybe they did not realize that the CD version contains the glass. I was fine with that. However, within the last couple of days, there was a post (either on here or on the Rumours board) that the CD did not have the glass and that it was a nice surprise to hear it on the new Best of CD. So, my point is: is there more than one version of the Rumours CD out there, one with glass and one without, or was the person that posted about the glass-less version just mistaken? It's not a big deal at all. I was just a little curious. Thanks, Brad |
Hi Brad... yes, there are two versions of the 'Rumours' CD.
I'm not sure why, but the first edition (which is the one I have... with the serial number 3010-2 ) features an alternate version of "Second Hand News" (with Lindsey's second "yeah" at the end omitted), and a different version of "Gold Dust Woman," which fades-in, and features the sound of breaking glass. The same version that can now be found on 'The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac.' A second edition was later released, featuring the longer version of "Second Hand News" (which is also on 'TVBoFM'), and the version of "Gold Dust Woman" that starts right in with the drumbeat, but doesn't include the breaking glass. A third version of "Gold Dust Woman" can be found on the boxed-set. This one begins with the drumbeat, but also includes the breaking glass. I hope that helps to clear up your questions. :) Johnny Stew |
ok... now i wanna hear it... i've been listening.. over and over... and i can't hear the breaking glass.. then of course im the one who thought the radio ad for a kansas concert saying "the seventies best rock and roll band" was "the seventh day adventis rock and roll band" so if you could tell me at what time during the song this breaking glass occurs it would be greatly appreciated by this here deaf person. thanks :)

yeah, i need to know too! i'm sure i've heard it before but didn't know it was breaking glass. who said it was breaking glass???

I've read it was breaking glass in an interview with (Stevie I believe) but deffinantly a member of Fleetwood Mac. I think Stevie said they didn't put it on the album because it was too "spookey".

hey a little side note on GDW this past weekend 100.7 in boston was playing their list of ultimate albums and they had rumors and they played it in full awesome! weel I only caught GDW by chance and i heard it from the begging, talk about timing. well after the song was over the Dj said that when stevie was recoding the vocals she was really sick and had takin all sorts of cold pills and kept clearing out her nostrils with one of those things that people use on little babies to clear ther noses (cant remeber what the're caled) anyways i thought that was interesting. I always thought that she sounds a bit conjested when I llistened to it. Now i know why. Sorry i thought that that was an intersting side piece on the song

Here's the quote:
Stevie Nicks: "Didn’t we do something very scary like throwing down glass? I think we took it off in the end because it was too scary… and we did it again on Tusk I think."
-I knew I read something somewhere!:) So it wasn't spooky it was scary: close enough! ;) :wavey: ~Nicole~ |

I guess I was wrong! *blushes* I can definitely verify that it can be heard on at least one edition of the 'Rumours' CD, on the boxed-set, and on 'The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac.' Since the majority of us all have 'VBoFM,' I'll tell you where to listen for it on that version. It can be heard at about 4:02 into the song, as Stevie sings.... "Ooh, pale shadow of a woman... Ooh... black widow. *shattering glass* Ooh, pale shadow... She's a dragon... Gold dust woman... woman... woman...." Oddly enough, it's nowhere to be found on the DVD-Audio version. Hope that helps, and clears up the confusion that I inadvertantly created! :) Johnny Stew |
I was hoping the VBO CD would have the version of The Chain where Lindsey says the f word at the very beginning. I specifically listened for it (figured w/ the remastering, it would really be audible) by putting my ear up to the speaker, but didn't hear it.
For those of you who don't know about this - and maybe Johnny Stew can help me out with exactly which album w/ The Chain is the one, I think it's Rumours. Anyway, if you crank up the volume on the left channel, the SECOND the track starts, you can hear Lindsey saying the f word just before the guitar and bass drum start. |
Crank it up louder cause the "F" is there
Beginning of the Chain on the VBO DOES contain the F-word...and after Ken C. took the time to take it off the DVD-A!

Hehehehe...
I knew someone would read the post where I posted about the "glass breaking" on GDW on the VBOFM set a few days ago...You can really hear it if you put on headphones and listen to it at a decent volume. I thought it was cool to see that re-appear after hearing about on the DVD-A interviews..."Have A Happy Halloween With Silver Shamrock"...Brian J.
