If you were to produce a Stevie tribute album
Who would you ask and what songs would be included?
Just to make things easier, let's limit the album to 12 tracks and only covers of commercially released songs. No demos. Here is my pick: Title: Like a Charmed Hour and a Haunted Song: Celebrating the songwriting of Stevie Nicks 1. Bella Donna- Sarah McLaughlin 2. Sisters of the Moon- No Doubt 3. Landslide- Dixie Chicks (I just loved it on Divas) 4. Rhiannon- Sheryl Crow (You didn't think I leave her off) 5. Sara- Sarah McLaughlin 6. Think About It- Faith Hill 7. Standback- Cher (YES, Cher, it would be cool to have a disco 'Believe' type remake.) 8. Alice- Dido 9. I Need To Know- Tom Petty (live) 10. Sorcerer- Marylin Martin (I Just love that version) 11. Seven Wonders- Sandy Stewart 12. HAEWAFY- Lindsey Buckingham Next... |
Of course, in a perfect world I would be singing all of these...but, since that's not quite possible, here's my tribute list:
1. Enchanted: Dolly Parton 2. Think About It: Goo Goo Dolls (don't ask me why, I can just hear it though). 3. Stand Back: Pink 4. Ooh My Love: Elton John 5. Gold Dust Woman: Ozzy Osbourne 6. Planets of the Universe: Alanis Morrisette 7. Edge of 17: Cyndi Lauper (throwing a little curve for this song) 8. Sara: Sarah McLaughlin 9. Whole Lotta Trouble: Gwen Stefani/No Doubt 10. Dreams: Matchbox Twenty 11. Fall from Grace: Courtney Love 12. Leather and Lace: Sheryl Crow and Lindsey Buckingham |

Lot's of great ideas on this thread. From the ho-hum to the bizarre (some are ones that are already recorded & released), here's my list: Enchanted: Sir Elton John Fall From Grace: Maria McKee (backed by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) Storms: Wilson Phillips Think About It: Bob Dylan (backed by TP & The Heart Breakers) Dreams: The Corrs Stand Back: Rod Stewart After The Glitter Fades: Dixie Chicks Rhiannon: Joan Osborne (backed by The Wallflowers) Bombay Sapphires: Sting Landslide: Smashing Pumpkins Leather & Lace: Ozzy Osbourne & Lita Ford Gold Dust Woman: The Wallflowers Planets Of The Universe: The Go-Go's No Spoken Word: Journey I Can't Wait: Pat Benatar Beauty & The Beast: Kate Bush Edge Of Seventeen: Heart Gypsy: Sheryl Crow |
what i always dislike about those compilations is that the songs never combine, so first of all i'd take a dominant producer to put everything in line, (my dream producer will be Moby of course) that's why i'll state only the right vocalists, here is my dream team:
fall from grace- edward kowalczyk (from Live) kind of woman- tori amos 1000 days- skin (from Skunk Anansie) i will run to you- alison moyet and morrissey planets of the universe- alanis morissette fireflies- michael stipe (from rem) beauty and the beast- marianne faithfull edge of seventeen- dave gahan (from depeche mode) the highwayman- dolly parton straight back- sinead o'connor battle of the dragons- annie lennox talk to me- sophie ellis-bextor escape from berlin- andy bell (from Erasure) long distance winner- fiona apple fireflies- elisabeth frazer (from Cocteau Twins) stand back- celine dion (no way. :distress: just kidding. :D ) |

hmm, my tribute album
Well, this is truly a great question, anyway here it goes
title: Flower and the Vine 1. Rhiannon-Sheryl Crow 2. Stand Back-Heart 3. Haewafy-Joni Mitchell 4. Dreams-Sara Maclachlan 5. Sara-Bonnie Raitt 6. Beauty and the Beast-Sandy Stewart 7. Thats Alright-Dixie Chicks 8. Outside the Rain-Shirley Manson 9. Candlebright-Dolly Parton 10. Rock A Little-Lenny Kravitz 11. Fall From Grace-Cher 12. Sister of the Moon-Rolling Stones |
Cool! Its fun imagining all of your suggestions! Here are mine...
1. Outside The Rain- Madonna (I can see her singing this kind of seductively, but with emotion) ;)
2. Nightbird- Dixie Chicks (They'd kick ass on the "the ones who sing at night" harmony part) 3. Angel- Blondie (with that pop-mocking poppiness they're so good at!) 4. Whole Lotta Trouble- Paul McCartney (Think of Paul in his brief-but-weird 80's synth phase, doing his "Helter Skelter"-ish wail and it works!) 5. Wild Heart- Faith Hill (She could really have fun with this) 6. Crystal- Eric Clapton (He could keep it acoustic and make it bluesy but sentimental- like "Wonderful Tonight". He wouldn't leave a dry eye in the house!) 7. Sisters Of The Moon- Courney Love/Hole (same tempo and smoky bass line as the original) ;) 8. Enchanted- The Rolling Stones (with tons of energy and piano!) :] 9. Dreams- Paul Simon (he makes anything sound thoughtful, so he could get a lot out of these lyrics) 10. Gold Dust Woman - Trisha Yearwood (I can just hear her belting out and holding the note for the "and go hooooooooooome" part) 11. Landslide - Steve Miller (soft, acoustic) 12. HAEWAFY- Crosby Stills And Nash (with Stills on lead vocal. I'm confident they'd make an awesome three-part harmony work for parts of this song!) Hehe...I just spent like 20 minutes thinking about all this. That was fun! GREAT thread. :wavey: -Sonia |

I looked over everyone else's choices & to be quite frank, I can see why I generally dislike these projects; the decisions to put a particular artist on a particular song seem like nothing but marketing decisions. Who needs to hear Ann & Nancy Wilson do a Stevie Nicks song? Or Cher? Or Faith Hill & Tim McGraw? Or even Clapton? These are dull, dull, dull middle-of-the-road ideas. They don't fascinate at all. The idea of Tim McGraw singing "Leather & Lace" with his wife is about as potentially exciting as a veterans' convention. On the other hand, Tommer's idea to stick Alison Moyette & Morrissey on "I Will Run to You" is inspired. |
I would actually hate it if a Stevie Nicks tribute album were ever made and sold! I hated it when the Rumours tribute came out, even though I didn't actually mind a couple of the covers. It IS just a stupid marketing scheme.
I do like the idea of thinking of what other artists would sound like singing some of my favorite songs. That's FUN! :blob1: I wouldn't even mind hearing them cover the songs on their own respective albums. That's totally different. But if the tribute thing actually happened, I'd be really angry  -Sonia |
