Van Halen's brutal bullying of their bassist
 

When Van Halen started they all agreed to split proceeds 20% each including their manager. David Lee Roth and his ego would trash the band each night after shows who ****ed up. Alex Van Halen was always majorly in debt. The band wanted to remove Michael Anthony of all song credits claiming he does not write music or lyrics. This happened during the peak of their success in 1984. Greed had taken over the band. Michael Anthony was married to his high school sweetheart and was not into the major drugs and alcohol as the Van Halen brothers and Roth. This led to the band to continue to bully him and strip him of royalties. When Roth left the band Anthony instantly bonded with Sammy and they became really good friends which irked the Van Halen brothers. For their 2004 reunion tour the Van Halen brothers wanted to replace Anthony with another bassist. Sammy put his foot down and said he would not tour without Anthony. This tour was brutal with Eddie going insane with drugs and alcohol. He was pulling his teeth out with plyers and would not shower for weeks. During the last night of the tour Eddie got a sharpie and drew all over his body before going on stage. That was the last night Anthony saw Eddie. Anthony found out he was fired when they did a press conference and announced Eddie's son Wolfgang would take over bass. Eddie then went to the press bashing Anthony as a horrible bassist. Anthony's famous backing vocals gave Van Halen their sound. Eddie changed Van Halen's website to scrub all photos or references of Anthony until fan backlash made them change it back. To this day Michael Anthony still will never say anything bad about the Van Halen brothers even though he was their target for bullying and stripping him of royalties. Sammy and Eddie did talk before Eddie's death. But Alex Van Halen still will not talk to Sammy. Sammy says its because of the 80 million he made off a tequila brand the band owned. The entire band owned this tequila and they were losing money on it. Sammy wanted to keep it going so the other band members had contracts that gave all of their rights to Sammy thinking he would go down with the ship. Turns out several years later Sammy sold it for 80 million. The band forced Sammy to take it but then Alex got jealous. Michael Anthony was bullied and ripped off by his own band.
I think the story is how hard it is to play in a band with family members. Heart is similar but not as toxic as Van Halen.
