Dave Mason Has Died At 79 Years Old

His time with Fleetwood Mac was brief and I'm sure everyone has different feelings about him being in the band and whether he was a good fit, etc. Regardless, it's sad to see another member of the Fleetwood Mac family pass.

I came to post this as well. Here's another article.

You know, Christine hated him, and that's all I needed to know.

He didn't seem like the kind of guy who was easy to work with or be around. Even Bekka mentioned some negative things about him which I think says a lot. Like Dave Walker, I don't think Dave Mason was a good fit for Fleetwood Mac regardless.

I agree on all points. There are some musicians(or people in general) that are just very difficult people to deal with. I've always heard that when the Stones finally hired Ron Wood, that the main reason was that they knew they liked him, and could get along with him. They were tired of difficult @$$holes. Because life's too short.....

Agree.

I see he passed away on sunday. Apparently it was just announced hours ago, or so I read in several websites. He was dealing with health issues since at least july.

I always loved his track I Wonder Why from the TIME album. I always felt that song was very “Fleetwood Mac” (unlike Blow by Blow)

R.I.P

Mick and Bekka have posted some tributes on FB, both with the "beards" photo. Billy has also posted a picture of the "Time" sextet and some brief words.

I think Bekka worked with Dave at some point after FM didn't she? It seems that any animosity between the two of them that was recounted in Mick's book must have long passed.

Bekka posted this on her Facebook page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-uWtqtxZcA

Sad to hear about this.

His Fleetwood Mac time was a blip in his career.

The second Traffic album and Alone Together are masterpieces. He was a force in the day.

Well, I think that it's hard to talk when you know that the person who died was not exactly a perfect one...Nobody is! But as long as you act, you build your own fame...

Dave Mason was a very good guitar player, and talking only about his time in FM, we all know his no-relation with Christine, but we must rescue that he put another kind of sound to the band, just as Bob Weston did, as Bob Welch did, as Lindsey Buckingham did, and as Rick Vito and Billy Burnette did.
So, his two songs with the band are not bad. We can agree or not on how much "FM sound" both have, but they're a part of the history of the band. Probably not the best "time" of FM, but they're a part of it too. I Wonder Why is specially a nice one! I like it a lot.
It's good to know, anyway, that he recovered the contact with some other members as Mick and Bekka, and that even Billy posted something about him as a tribute.

RIP Dave Mason, thanks for add your grains of sand to this wonderful band too!!

Sad to hear about Dave M. As others have said, he wasn't a good fit for Fleetwood Mac, probably would have fitted in back in the Weston/Welch era better than the Post-Rumours era.

As an aside, in defence of the wonderful Dave W, while Dave M wasn't a good fit for FM, FM wasn't a good fit for Dave W. :]

Yes Christine hated him. Anyone remember the 1995 Christine live "internet chat" that came promoting Time. She openly questioned "why Fleetwood Mac would hire such a guitarist." I am sure at the time I was not the only one baffled by that comment to hear Chris take a swipe at the band. I wonder why she hated him so much. Maybe he did not treat her like a English royal lady the way Bob Welch said she wanted to be treated
