Tango in the Night Expanded Edition- the Stevie songs

I saw that one of the songs on the 2nd disc is Ooh My Love. Awesome! I had no idea Stevie had originally offered this song to the band. It's one of my favorite songs so I can't wait to hear this version.

Was it common knowledge that this song was considered for Tango? Because I'm shocked. And surprised that When I See You Again was chosen over Ooh My Love for Tango. Weird.

What do you think about the other songs?

I'm surprised too. Actually I remember I've read somewhere that in fact When I See You Again was chosen for Tango in the place of What has rock n roll ever done for you. However we know Stevie wasn't very available at the time of the Tango sessions so that influenced also the choice of which of her material to include in the album.
The article for the reissue also mentioned a version of Big Love that featured vocals from Stevie, I'd be curious to hear it. Other than that I would have liked Joan of Arc but alas.
The choice of Seven Wonders was pretty much mandatory, I'm quite content they put Juliet, it would have been a good choice for the original album, but maybe she preferred to leave it for her solo album.
I'm pretty excited to hear Ooh My Love with the Fleetwood Mac arrangement, I expect it to be very different much like with If you were my love.
I wonder whose track could it ever be "Where we belong".

I have a very rough demo of Ooh My Love and I wonder if this is the version that we will hear. If it is the one I'm talking about, then I can't wait cuz I would love to have a clean and clear sounding copy of it! :] a little surprised and sad that What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You isn't in the tracklisting.

Maybe too fairy tale for Lindsey. But I think it actually goes really well with "You and I, Part 1." I think it's fits better on TOSOTM anyway.

"What Has Rock 'n Roll Ever Done For You" (at least the demo we know) was surely recorded with our own musicians and sent to the Mac for consideration. So that's probably why it's not included. I don't think Lindsey and the band got around to arranging their own version to any significant extent. And the demo reminds me so much of something like "Addicted to Love" that it wouldn't have really fit well on the album, even though it's a pretty fun song.

As far as "Joan of Arc" goes, I'm not convinced this was recorded by the Mac. It just sounds so spartan that if the band did work on it, they didn't get anywhere close to finishing it. I've always been a little mystified by its appeal.

"Ooh My Love" is a highlight of OSOTM (even though the repetitive ending goes on too long IMO), and I think the song could have also fit the mood of Tango well. So it will be interesting to hear if it sounds like a missed opportunity in the hands of the Mac.

I wonder if the "run-through" of "Juliet" is the same as the demo on YouTube where she abrasively yells and "wells!" her way through it. I never thought that sounded particularly Mac-like, but if it was just a studio jam, maybe. I really like the version of "Juliet" that ended up on OSOTM, so I'm kind of glad it didn't make Tango, even though it might have turned out better than WISYA.

I always thought Ooh My Love was related to the recording of TOSOM... Because it took place in a castle. Guess I had the timeline wrong on that.

Same here haha. Maybe that's why she chose it for the album?

LOL
That is what I thought too

In Micks first book he only mentions the 3 songs included on the album and the band rejecting What has rock n roll ever done for you. He never mentions Ooh my love so this is so fascinating.

Interesting stuff!!!

I have a bootleg copy of the Big Love with Stevie's vocals - really great improvement, IMO. Excited to have an official track!

I've loved this song from the first time I heard. I don't know the fandom labeling for the different versions, but the sparser, more "demo-y" one is nowhere near as good as the more produced version, which to me has Lindsey's smell all over it.

and his guitar playing. and at the end of the demo version you hear Christine ask Lindsey if he got enough for what he needed (or something to that effect) and he goes "yeaaaah"

and in the finished version, that has Lindsey's influence all over it.

Richard Dashut was asked about it on his tumblr... he didn't remember a whole lot about it but thought it was too dark.

The biggest weakness is that the first two verses just repeat. I kinda figured on the demo she sang the same verse twice as a placeholder, coz she hadn't written a second verse yet. Because of that repetition the song never really develops any forward momentum, the story doesn't go anywhere.... That said, atmospherically I love the demo, particularly the loud, ominous drums.

If this is the version of Ooh My Love I'm thinking of of it's fantastic and I've waited for years to hear a clear copy of it.
It also goes to show that she contributed more to Tango than she was given credit for. It may shed some light on why she is reluctant to record a full on album with them again.
