Why aren't there any leaked Lindsey demo tapes?

As most if not all Ledgies are aware, dozens of leaked Stevie Nicks demos are available on YouTube.

We know that Lindsey and Christine both have demos of new songs in their possession.

My questions are:

Why is it that only Stevie's demos are ever leaked on YouTube? Who is responsible for those leaks?

Also, why is that nobody has ever leaked a demo of an unreleased Lindsey song or an unreleased Christine song?

SisterNightroad 12-05-2014 07:40 AM

Well, Stevie always admitted to hand her demos to whoever visited her house, probably Christine and Lindsey keep their demos locked up.

bombaysaffires 12-05-2014 02:19 PM

yeah, Stevie always seems to record her demos with an entourage of friends around her and in the room, and then as soon as she writes/records something she has to share it and get feedback from them.

Lindsey seems to like writing and recording by himself mostly, he just goes by his own feedback and I don't know if he shares any of his demos ever...

There was an entire leaked Lindsey album.

Christine and Lindsey seem like private people to me. I think many of their demos were done behind closed doors with only a few people in attendance.

A few of the leaked Stevie Nicks demos that I've listened to sound more like after hours drug and booze parties with a bunch of musicians and hangers on partying in the studio. Stevie also liked to be the center of attention. Back in the day, she was surrounded by a bunch of "yes people" and hangers on who continually reminded her how amazing and phenomenal she was. I love Stevie Nicks, she is my rock and roll goddess. But, she was a mess and those "demos" just found homes in many people's purses.

Gift of Screws? Might that have not been so accidental??

But again, those were finished versions of songs. Lindsey has never seemed comfortable with anything but polished, finished versions of his songs being heard.

What about the "living room" version of To Try For The Sun?

Sorry, I forgot about Gift of Screws 1. Who leaked it? Do you know? Obviously most of those songs ended up on Say You Will. I have never heard the bootleg Gift of Screws. I'm guessing the songs sound the same as they do on Say You Will apart from a lack of Stevie vocals?

you are missing out. way more songs than what ended up on SYW, and songs fit so much better together. would have been epic album if it ever came out that way.

other than GOS1 which was more-less done songs that were presented to the record company (so anybody could have probably leaked it at that point), there are a number of leaked real demos - several different Deep Dense demos, Given Thing, Steve's Riff, Blue Turns to Grey, all in different stages of being unfinished.

and whoever said that LB never allows demo versions of his songs to be heard, guess they didn't hear officially released Rumours or Tusk song demos from few years ago. he may have cared much more in the past about non-finished versions being released than these days.

of course, other than his 3 songs released on the EP, we haven't heard any of his or Christine's new FM music recorded in 2012 and 2014, either leaked or officially released. he's been almost as prolific and productive in the last 2 years as in the previous 5, yet unlike when he was solo or collaborating with other artists which was all released in short order, we've heard none of his most recent music. :distress: and people are wondering why we are upset over no new album and say to just wait and be happy??

Michele is correct. Add to that, Lindsey's cover of Big Yellow Taxi.

We have unfinished songs as well. Given Thing, Steve's Riff, Deep Dense ... yes, Elle, Deep Dense is very unfinished.

We have versions where Lindsey is just running through, playing with chords, with no lyrics making up stuff.

Right, it's already been more than a year. Why would I sit here and not complain for a year?

Everything will work itself out in time .... just put the new album in my coffin. Tuck it in there, with some earbuds. Thanks.

Basically yes, they sound exactly the same just without Stevie. I remember being a little disappointed when SYW came out that a good chunk of the album was already familiar. About half the songs ended up on SYW and the other half ended up on his subsequent solo albums. Maybe even a couple yet unreleased? Off the top of my head I can't think of them all.
