The Dealer (2014 Stevie vs 1981 Stevie - audio download)

Thanks go to welcomechris for this idea, since he posted a special mix of his own in another thread... Since I first heard the new version, I wanted to use one of the a cappella tracks from the original Bella Donna sessions with the new music. But welcomechris' mix made me intrigued to hear today's Stevie sing with herself from 1981. So I have mixed sections from a couple 1981 vocal takes with the 2014 version of the song. My goal wasn't to show up Stevie's current vocal with her older one - or for the 2 vocals to fight each other; only to embellish on the new recording with the vocal elements that I always loved in the original demo takes. But there's no "Jesse showed me at an early age" or other variances, because I wanted the two vocals to mesh as though they were meant to be together. It's not perfect, and I may play with it some more. I also played with the equalization of the center & side channels, because the 2014 track as it is sounds a little muddy to me. Anyways in the hopes you all might enjoy it, I wanted to share it here!

The links say: "The Dealer" by Stevie Nicks may be available for download from Amazon.
I was hoping to hear what you did-great idea by the way. Is there another way to do it? Thanks, Ricoh

Thanks for letting me know... I tried renaming the file and changing the track length, but that didn't work either. I uploaded elsewhere though, so now it should work! :)

I would move it again. That site seems fishy. I get this warning from my University ISP... I have NEVER seen this from ANY filesharing webservice. So I would be very careful.ESPECIALLY you PC/Windows uers

Wow! Thanks For Carrying On My Idea! It sounds great! Which 1981 take did you use for this

I posted this in the Dealer thread...

Another thing...

We are so used to listing to this song with her 1981 voice. Today I was listening to a mix of songs on my iPhone and Street Angel's Blue Denim came on, THEN The Dealer. They blended well together, and The Dealer even sounded better to me and more ALIVE than Blue Denim.

If you listen, Stevie's voice has not changed ALL that much from The Other Side of the Mirror, and Street Angel and Timespace era. There was a point in the late 90's when she stopped smoking and could still hit higher notes when it was "better", but other than some loss of her upper notes she still sounds MOSTLY the same as she has since the late 90's.

It is only when doing a direct comparison between 1981 Stevie The Dealer and 2014 The Dealer that people are having trouble. If we had NEVER heard the demos of The Dealer, I am sure the Grumpycat Ledgies would be all "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG! IT IS SO HAPPY BOUNCY AND CLASsic STEVIE".

You can try the same thing. Listen to the Accapela version of Rooms on Fire from Youtube... and then listen to 2014 The Dealer. Despite a little loss of range her voice is basically the same .

Hmm.. that is strange. The site it's uploaded to is actually not a file sharing site. It's a website created with www.yola.com. I have a fan site for another artist hosted on that same site for years, and I haven't had any issues before. So it should be completely safe to open and download.

Absolutely Awesome! Thanks! To my ears its almost the same except that I now know what I miss from the demo and it's Bentmont Tench part and that final part stevie sings at the end in demo. It just feels like it would be a better ending to the song.

Great work!!! It would've been cool if Stevie could've used parts of her old vocal as background-I agree her voice hasn't changed much for awhile but it does sound "thin" in the new vocal I think.

Thank you for the inspiration! I used sections of vocals from takes 11, 12 & 13 from Feb 16th and 17th of 1981.

Well this is just ridiculously lovely.

I never really appreciated the song til this new version was released, which I feel highlights the lyrics and the core of the melody a lot more than any of the demos did. But the vocal embellishments and sweetness of young-Stevie are an awesome compliment to it. Can't stop listening.

I agree, this is absolutely lovely and I can't get enough of it. Great work!!

What a nice blend! thank you!

Nicely done -- really lovely. Best of both worlds, really. Anyway to dl it?
