Stevie to be honored as BMI icon

Did not know where to put this but this is great news for me. Stevie getting a lot of newfound recognition. I feel she is long overdue. Just my opinion.

Great news! I love Barbara Cane's description of Stevie :blob2:

BMI Icons are selected because of their unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers. As a BMI Icon, Stevie Nicks will join elite ranks that include Paul Simon, Carole King, David Foster, John Fogerty, Kris Kristofferson, the Jacksons, Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Bee Gees, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Brian Wilson, Carlos Santana, Dolly Parton, and others.

"Stevie Nicks is an extraordinary songwriter and pedigree artist of stunning genius and unwavering grace, on and off the stage. She has defined an era of pop and rock culture around the world with her brilliance and unforgettable magnificence," said Barbara Cane, BMI Vice President & General Manager, Writer/Publisher Relations, Los Angeles.

It is pretty vindicating after all these years to see Stevie finally gaining respect & stature in the industry. She never really received critical respect throughout her career, and was entirely written off by the mid 1990s. Some time in the past ~5 years, she's suddenly gaining icon status in the industry, though. It's a bit of an odd & abrupt change, but I'm digging it all the same. I fully credit the rise of the internet generation & culture. Suddenly, everyone can express their geekiest, nerdiest interests, and find tons of support from their peers who agree. It's been like 1 big coming out fest for Stevie fandom the past several years. I love it, and am so glad she's around to witness it.

 Well said! I remember back in the early to mid 80's my friends making fun of me over being a Stevie fan. Even radio Dj's would crack jokes online about not understanding her lyrics or pronunciation while singing. Today, I hear people praising her career, her songwriting and her live performance. What I like best is the younger generation is really embracing her now. Rock on Stevie!!

This makes me so happy for her!!

I have been listening to a bunch of her older music on something called http://www.last.fm/music/Stevie+Nicks/+videos, some I have never heard before and I am more in love with her voice and her music now than when I was younger. "A Thousand Days," "Some Kind of Woman," and "Two Kinds of Love," which she sings as duet and starts out and seems to be not so good but then I really loved the sound of it. Just thought to mention. The difference in her voice is quite noticeable over the years but in my opinion if you love her voice, you love her voice and singing no matter the transformation. I don't talk or sing like I used to either.

I'm supposing the dreaded Lady Antebellum would have to loom large... Stevie certainly doesn't choose her company well these days.

The BMI tweet...

Hopefully the musical tribute for Stevie and her music will be something along the lines of The Kennedy Center Honors as opposed to one of those wretched Grammy tributes...

It would be nice if some of her peers performed some of her songs...I wonder if any of her band mates will attend...
