Thanks for the birthday wishes!
It was a bittersweet birthday...yesterday was my dad's Memorial, he passed away on Feb 15th, but it took my mom & I 5 weeks to get our **** together for a Memorial.
For most of that time, I was going through probably 10,000 (low estimate) slides that they'd taken over the years (my parents were "slide people" rather than "snapshot people" when it came to cameras & film). Then, after that, at only 4 slides at a time, running them through the converter to digitize them into .jpg files. Then into chronological order, then import them to iMovie, then picking out & adding the music for the soundtrack behind the slide show. Took me from two days after he passed until 2am yesterday morning to complete the project.
When I thought I was finished, I looked and the slide show was 3 HOURS! I frantically (& painfully) started editing it down to just a little over an hour. Once that was done, I attempted to burn the project to a DVD-R so I could use a friend's lap top to run into the projector to show on the screen. BUT, the DVD was "unreadable", AND, my friend's Macbook didn't have the same edition of iMovie, so I couldn't just run the program from the laptop either. So, implemented another "Plan B" (which apparently, was the theme of Dad's Memorial...."Plan B", all started with the original venue canceling us 3 days before the event & having to come up with a new venue AND notify the guests on short notice) since I got it to work on the projector from my mom's desktop iMac, at the last minute, I just packed up the iMac and schlepped it to the venue. Then I didn't have a long enough cable to patch the "audio out" of the projector (nor the iMac itself) to the venue's sound system (which was about 30' away in another room), I used the venue's wireless microphone and pretty much just mic'd the iMac as if I was miking a guitar amp, only problem was the mic wasn't really stable & kept falling down & twice rolling off the table & falling the 4+ feet to the hardwood floor causing a major cacophony. (what a time to not have my usual handy roll of Duct Tape!)
But, after all that, it still was deemed that it went well. Dad was sent on his new journey with much love from those at the Memorial and those who couldn't attend but knew him well. He was one of those people that if you knew him, you loved him...and vice versa.
After all the birthday gifts that my dad had given me through the years, this was my gift to him, letting him have HIS day on my birthday.
