She's So Unusual
I had the opportunity to see Cyndi Lauper on her tour celebrating and performing in it's entirety She's So Unusual for it's 30th anniversary
AMAZING ! the stories she told ,about how the songs were written and the first year of touring with the KINKS and being told by executives she should look more like Katrina( tied in my book with natalie merchant as one of the most horrible human beings) and the waves , the songs are still great the show was amazing ! |
AWESOME!
I saw Cyndi for the first time at some Pride thing in SF (1998). She was horribly tardy and was on stage for MAYBE 20 mins! Amazing live-but put a bad taste in mouth. Plus the bar was just so rude to us. My girlfriend and I, there up front, minding our own business, smiling trying to be nice, and weren't wanted. We GET that, but are you kidding me. Concerts are supposed to be about unity...I digress. We saw her a second time at the VH1 Divas in Las Vegas. A friend had the pleasure of running into an extremely polite but well inebriated Lauper asking for directions in this Labyrinth of a Hotel (The MGM Grand) AWESOME! Third time at the True Colors with Debbie Harry & Erasure. She never disappoints, but the situations haven't all been best and I'd kill to see her for a full show in a small theatre (what I had expected the first go round) I'm glad you saw the show and I hope the tour goes well. She's an amazing individual, and I buy each and every new thing she puts out! PS-Katrina makes me bark a little in my mouth. lol IDK why you find her offensive, but her music offends me perfectly. bwahahah |
Okay you guys are gonna have to spill the beans on this Katrina person. Why is she so horrible? Are you talking about the woman who sang something about sunshine. What was that song?
Anyway Cyndi Lauper does have one heck of a voice, that's for sure. I was watching some videos on youtube of her live in Japan 91, man she is amazing. |
I love Cyndi. Sounds like you saw a great show!
OK, I'm curious why Natalie Merchant is "one of the most horrible human beings", which surely would put her up there with Pol Pot, Joseph Stalin, Genghis Khan, Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein and many, many others lost to history. |
A night to remember was a great album. I love primitive.
|
The only Cyndi album I have is She's So Unusual, and I love it so much I have it on CD and vinyl.
|
I saw Cyndi Lauper open for Cher many years ago and still say Cyndi stole the show (and I am a HUGE Cher fan). She was amazing, in every way.

I love her I have seen her more times than anyone she never disappoints I love Hat Full of Stars great cd and the Dance cd Bring Ya to the Brink and Sisters of Avalon gets played a lot , Body Acoustic is brilliant re imaging of songs .
I wish more artist would embrace their fist album , I was amazing she did the whole cd , you hear so many artist complain they can't sing their own songs live |
I was not into Cyndi in 1984 .I look back and say she was great.and still is.
I love 1980's music. 1980's was the last decade of good music for me. |
there is plenty of great music being made today , it's just not on the radio
Cyndi is still making great music , she does what she wants ,not what is the formula her last cd she did was the blues the people here are always posting great new music Valerie June amazing |
True Colors has always been my favourite Cyndi Lauper album. Hat Full of Stars is vastly underrated as well. I received her book last Christmas, it's so good.

I too saw her last Friday night in Glenside, PA. A friend of mine invited me the night before. I was in heaven. I had never seen Cyndi live and the show was really amazing. I knew it was gonna be good but not that good! Her voice has an incredible power to it... She sounds better than she did in 1983! She talked a lot, which I'm not a big fan of, but she did reveal a lot about the making of She's So Unusual which I found fascinating.
