The Chain Demo

I’ve been listening to Rumours Super Deluxe and I LOVE The Chain Demo and I've been wondering about a few things. It’s a totally different song from The Chain that we’ve been listening to for the past 40 years. It’s amazing how the chorus morphed into the song that went onto Rumours, which brings me to my first question. What is the first line?

I slipped into the ____ of my emptiness.

I can’t make out that one word. Someone please help.

I love If You Ever Did Believe at the end of it too. It seems to fit so perfectly right there instead of at the end of Gold Dust Woman. I wonder which song it originally went with.

I’m wondering if LBs “You can roll like thunder” in Go Your Own Way was something aimed at Stevie’s "Thunder only happens when it’s raining.”

I really like when they sing together and I really like Stevie’s harmony vocals on You Make Lovin’ Fun. I also like her background vocals on Oh Daddy, which you don’t hear on the original released version and I wonder why her vocals were left off the original album. Same with her vocals on Never Going Back Again. There’s a version on Super Deluxe where it’s sung as a duet. I hate to sound like I’m bashing LB but could it have been because they weren’t getting along so he cut some of her vocals?

I believe it's "downstairs."

I'm certain that the "roll like thunder" was aimed at Stevie's lyrics to 'Dreams', because the original GYOW lyrics as sung in '75 didn't say that...

Oh man, Maria, you are a lifesaver. I've been racking my brain wondering where that ending part in the The Chain demo was from....and I had completely forgotten about If You Ever Did Believe!! Thank you so much for reminding me about that!
Also, where is that part in Gold Dust Woman, which version? I don't have the Super Deluxe set, but I have the Deluxe set with the 3 cd's. You also mentioned Stevie's harmony on You Make Lovin Fun...another thing I don't recall...I hope I'm not missing out on too much by not having the Super Deluxe??

Does anyone know how the lyrics for the Chain came about? Who wrote them? Obviously Stevie's lines are in there...but the whole "Listen to the wind blow...watch the sunrise.." etc . It wasn't in The Chain demo, nor Christine's Keep Me There. I've always wondered!
