Larry Hagman

I could be 1 year behind on this. I read the Emmys this year are doing some tribute to the kid from Glee and Sopranos guy, ummm, why isnt Larry Hagman included, his career is 50 times greater than any of these people, NOT saying we dont honor the ones they MAY do, but Larry Hagman, a icon doesnt get a tribute and yet some druf addict kid gets one?

doesnt make sense to me

Thats a great question.Larry was a great actor and probably nobody else could play JR like he did .

I was upset that Larry and Linda Gray didn't make the Emmy noms. The man was an icon for over a decade in a mega popular tv show before cable was in every home. He was flawless in his role as J. R. Ewing. It's really shameful the industry hasn't recognized him with a fitting tribute.

Yeah, kind of have to agree with you there. (this maybe the first time ever!) ;)

I've been watching the old seasons of Dallas on DVD this year (still haven't seen the new show yet). Larry Hagman really was a fantastic actor. Not only that, he was a huge advocate for his costars, and dabbled in writing and directing as well. And Larry himself... what a character! There are not many celebs I would like to have known, but he's an exception. He had such an irreverent sense of humor and way of approaching life. At the same time he was so incredibly generous with anyone he came in contact with, and was charitable on a large scale. Larry just seemed intent on leaving the world a better place than he found it.

Regarding being honored by awards shows... meh. The Grammys, Emmys, and Oscars are just a joke. I'm sure there are much better ways Larry would have preferred to have been honored than on the Emmys. :)

He was also great in I Dream of Jeannie.

Yes I still think most awards shows are fixed and the artists and entertainers that really deserve it get screwed.Stevie /Lindsey and FM to just name a couple.

One of my favorite bad guys. Larry along with
Michael Zaslow (Roger Thorpe, Guiding Light).

If Roger would have been the one to shoot J.R...?

They should

If he's not included, he definitely should be included in the tribute. No one could play JR but him. Excellent actor & he was nothing like JR in real life. I've been watching the new Dallas & I'm glad it wasn't cancelled when he passed away.

Lee

On The View today Whoopi had a bit of a rant about this, the gist of which is that Larry and also Jack Klugman are in the In Memoriam montage but not given additional mention like some others (Glee kid, Gandolfini). I didn't hear full details as I was sitting in the car dealer waiting room, but sounded like the Emmys are targeting young viewers.

its to bad the older entertainers dead or alive dont get recognized for their hard work entertaining us.

Emmys Producer Responds To Cory Monteith, Larry Hagman 'Tributes' Backlash

Some are angry that the Glee star will be honoured but the Dallas legend will not

The producer of the Emmy Awards has defended the decision to exclude Larry Hagman from the memorial section of the show. Jack Klugman has also been left out, with backlash prompting producer Ken Ehrlich to argue that there would always have been people pointing out late stars who were not chosen.

Five deceased actors will be honoured, and they are James Gandolfini, Cory Monteith, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters and Family Ties producer Gary David Goldberg. Ehrlich, the executive producer of the ceremony, is quoted by the New York Daily News as saying: “Inevitably the next day there are people who say, ‘Why not this one?’ “No matter what we do, there will be people who feel we had other options and could have done other things.” Cory Monteith and Larry Hagman have both passed away over the last year (WENN) The inclusion of Monteith seems to have caused the biggest uproar among critics, but Ehrlich said that he was chosen as a way to reach younger viewers who may not otherwise have tuned in. "It was a rather personal choice," he said. "Corey's appeal was to maybe a little different generation than some of the others we were honouring. "In all candour, this became a producer's option, and we selected these five individuals knowing theat there were certainly others that could have been treated this way."

In the Tributes segment of Sunday's event, a close friend of each star will praise them. Edie Falco will discuss Gandolfini, Michael J Fox will pay tribute to Goldberg, Jane Lynch will speak out on Monteith, Rob Reiner will honour Stapleton, and Robin Williams will speak about his former mentor Winters
