stub hub What I Learned from Spending Way Too Much Money to See Fleetwood Mac

luckily it worked out for them aside from being ripped off price wise ( not that ticketmaster is any better ) this is another reason I would never use a scalper

I am glad I waited to buy tickets from Ticketswest for FM's Spokane concert. I was thinking of buying from Stub Hub about a month ago and decided not to. I thought they were legit.

Happy that things worked out for these fans and they were still able to get into the concert. There were tons of scalpers outside the Arena last night due to Hoopfest fans taking in the concert too.

Wow! I am SO GLAD I didn't end up using Stubhub! Not the first time I've heard shady stories and happenings with buying tickets online.

My friend and I had been talking about the Mac tour since we first heard it announced but see I have extremely unpredictable health and end up hospitalized A LOT not to mention being on disability and having particularly expensive medications and treatments I can rarely make ends meet even. So we waited. A long time. And I also hated what was available on ticketmaster by that time. But we did luck out! I was stressing out so bad too because I'd never been to the venue my concert was held at either so I was so scared of getting crappy seats. Then I finally learned about disabled seating! And luckily this particular venue holds onto said seating (I think its up to the venue but after a point they do have the right to offer the accessible seating to anyone...) The best part of accessible seating? NO FEES!!! Granted if you're not in a wheelchair like my friend you're stuck on a folding chair but while I'm not exactly confined to a wheelchair myself I use one and need one for this kind of event and its downright dangerous for me to be climbing stairs and all. The funniest thing? We had the cheapest tickets possible at $49.50 and no fees. Yet we were closer to the stage than the vast majority of people. We did have a side view and I was warned about that but we were running late and accidently ended up in the wrong spit at once. We were in the $99 accessible seating area. Its dead center but waaaay back. So out cheap seats were way better! It was really awesome! I need to get my photos up on Flikr or something so I can show you exactly how good our seats were!

And get this? We ended up buying out tickets only hours before the concert! I was sick and throwing up that morning and my friend didnt think we should go but I said even if I ended up in the hospital (which I didn't!) the next day, its FLEETWOOD MAC! And so worth it. So we scored awesome seats the day of the show. It was way cheaper and probably way better than we ever could've done on stubhub anyhow.

I'm also telling this story because I've heard terrible stories where scalpers buy out the accessible seats. I actually saw tickets right next to where we were on sale on Craigslist. In fact I should check my ticket because I honestly think I saw someone on Craigslist trying to sell the very seat I had! How screwy is that? Granted it all worked out and I saw that listing days after the concert so looks like no one took them up on it. Its sad when scalpers buy the accessible seats because then someone who really needs those seats can't go to the concert. I sure couldn't have gone (especially being as sick as I was that very day) without having an accessible seat. And while I can and did stand part of the show I also really had to sit down and was so grateful that even when I sat I had no one standing in my way. Its the first concert I've been able to go to in the several years I've been very ill. So I'm really glad it all worked out.

And just wow! My friend and I repeatedly looked at Stubhub ourselves so I'm just so, so thankful we didn't end up going that route! Just wow. I can't even imagine.

I would never buy from StubHub. Aside from the prices, it's the principle - these are just scalpers who want to make enormous profits on the tickets they bought using software to circumvent ticket limits.

Personally, I would prefer that all concerts and venues go to a will-call only policy.

wow that's crazy i have been using stubhub for years! its so cheap when you buy tickets last minute so for me i can usually pay half price for a ticket. that sucks for that couple though. ugh!!

dontlookdown 07-01-2013 04:26 PM

Wow - that sucks.
Missing those first few songs would have put me over the edge.
But it's great that you are being fully reimbursed.
Stubhub is owned by ebay and they have always been a legit company.
You'd think that there would be something in place so that you can't buy something that has already been refunded or sold.

I would be fuming mad and probably would not settle with just being reimbursed.
This is one of the many reasons why I love Bruce Springsteen. He stepped in early on and made sure fans would never get screwed with ticket-buying issues.

Glad you finally made it in to see the rest of the show.
A judge should figure out what those missed songs are worth and make the seller pay you a fine...
Just kidding, but that's what should happen in a perfect world.

I agree. These criminals are unconscionable. We're already looking at around $300.00 for <2> decent tickets, which is bad enough. But the idea of being ripped off AND missing the opening of the show? Why isn't this kind of nonsense regulated? Everything else is.

Oh, I didn't realize that they were owned by Ebay.

I use Stubhub because it's easier to get a single ticket from them than the other brokers and when tickets cost a certain amount of money, it's hard to get people to want to go with you.

I agree with the ethical position against scalpers. But they manage to get all the tickets so the fans don't have a chance. Sometimes if I want to see a show, it's my only option. I know it's a chicken/egg conundrum. If enough fans stopped using them they will have to change their practices, but I don't think enough people can take a moral stand to put a dent in their conduct, so I give in to it. I feed the crime.

Although with Mick's VIP packages in the mix, I managed to get tickets for 5 shows without resorting to scalpers, so I've done a lot better than I have in the past.

@michelej1 Five shows? Wow, lucky! I'm just happy to be going to one. Wish Fleetwood Mac would play more Australian venues, and more shows at the current venues. The States gets all the FM love! Not fair! :p
Oh - and your name is that pronounced Mi-shell or Mi-kel-ay (the Italian for Michael)...are you a woman or a man? Just curious...sorry, odd question I know!

It is just horrible how scalpers take advantage of people. I've never used stubhub. I'm more inclined to go through official ticket sellers - Ticketmaster/Ticketek/Band members' official websites - e.g. Mick's ticket allocation. I am even more unlikely to use stubhub in future after reading stories like this.
