Favourite Stevie Singles (Part 2)

I figured I would/should make a sequel to the first I posted just based off of the feedback I got. I noticed there were a lot of fans that were disapointed as to not seeing their fav (or one of their) favourite Stevie single/hit. So I'm going to post another poll above with the most of the songs that were mentioned in the comments on the previous forum/ poll I made. Hope I get around to everyone's fav this time!

The Planets love is just wonderful to see. It's a melodic and lyrical masterpiece, and the obvious choice for me.

I voted for Planets, but I really am not all that attached to the version released as a single, so maybe I shouldn't have. My love for the demos simply bleeds into it and that love is so strong I felt compelled to choose it.

Many people seem to prefer the demos. I've never really understood that. The demos are lovely, to be sure, but they do feel unfinished, and they're so in the vein of all her other work from the Rumours era that they just don't feel as special to me. The I-just-broke-up-and-am-sad-and-here's-an-ethereal-song-about-it schtick works well for her, but the production on TISL adds an urgency and a perfect hookiness to the song that I think makes it stick out more in her catalogue.

But it's possible that my opinion is just shaped by the fact that I came to TISL early in my fandom, and Rumours-era demos much later. ;)

I just much prefer the phrasing of it when it was in 3/4. It was more emotive to my ears, whereas the TISL version with the change in time signature and the more poppy production comes off as colder and slightly detached.

Mm, I can see what you mean. I wouldn't call it colder, necessarily, but it certainly does change the emotion of the song, for sure. Her "new" vocals are a big part of the appeal to me as well, admittedly. I just think they hit the lyrics much harder than her soft Rumours-era voice. But I've never been as in love with her pre-80s vocals as I feel like I'm supposed to be.

I also tend to like my songs as sad, slow, and depressing as possible. So maybe that has something to do with it lmao.

Planets Of The Universe.
I like the remixes, but I think the extended version is the best Stevie's song from her last works, since the release of Street Angel (I can't talk about IYD, I have not heard it in detail...). Come on, she was nominated for an award for this song!!!!
The art cover is beautiful, to complete why I chose the single.
Regards!

agreed, the best version on the cd single is the extended album version, which really rocks out the last minute or so. One of her best solo offerings. Wasn't it written somewhere that Lindsey said he was impressed with John Shanks production on this song?

I think I remember something like that from the liner notes of Crystal Visions? Something about how he was impressed because he and FM had worked with the song several times and it had never worked, so he was impressed that they made it work and it was finally being released. Or something to that effect.

Again all above.

Gotta agree with you on that one too Dex. I personally prefer the TISL version of Planets too. I love the demo, please don't get me wrong; but I guess I just have a soft spot for the TISL version, (or maybe even the whole album)

After The Glitter Fades. Even my friend who's obsessed with boy bands and hates music from before 2009 loves that song.

Perhaps that's not the most glowing endorsement. ;) Teasing. After the Glitter Fades is a great song and a great choice for this.

Seriously though, what is your friend thinking? And where did she come up with 2009 as the cutoff year for good music? Genuinely curious.
