"Hold Me"

Some questions about the studio version of "Hold Me":
1. Does Stevie sing on it at all?
2. Which member is the deep-voiced male singing "come on and..." And "why don't you..." In the chorus?
3. Whose voice is the abrupt, high-pitched "hey!" in the middle of the third repetition of the words "Hold Me" in each chorus?
4. Does the band not like this song? I think it's odd that it wasn't included on "The Chain" box set while "Love in Store" (a song I love, but certainly less well-known than "Hold Me") and the admittedly very good outtake "Goodbye Angel" were included from "Mirage." It's similarly weird that from "Tango," the hit "Seven Wonders" is omitted while the widely disparaged "Welcome to the Room, Sara" made the lineup.

I know John did lend his voice on Cool Water, but other that, you know any weird sounds that you hear are going to be Lindsey. Deep voice? It's Lindsey. Chicken squawking? It's Lindsey. Grunts? Lindsey. It's always Lindsey.

In fact, I just assumed he was making the children's voices on SYW. Was proven wrong there.

That's ok - he totally made up for it on Illume.

Yeah, if it sounds like a chipmunk or a barking dog, it's Lindsey.

I'm not sure why it was left off the boxed set, but I agree that doing so was a mistake. "Hold Me" is most definitely in my top 10 favorite FM songs. Christine and Lindsey's two-part harmonies on the verses are fantastic. Their voices complement each other so well.

And the chorus---Lindsey was really wearing his Brian Wilson influence on his sleeve when he arranged that part of the song. All of those overlapping vocals and the aforementioned "Come on and..." lines really recall an old Beach Boys song.

Lindsey sort of did the same thing on Tom Petty's "Walls (Circus)," on which Lindsey sang numerous Wilsonesque backing vocal parts.

3. I always thought that was some type of percussion effect, but it's hard to tell. My cousin thinks it a chimp making that noise...go figure:laugh:
4. They did correct that mistake by adding the song to the condensed version of the boxed set.

I don't see WTTRS on my copy of The Chain?

I would imagine that Stevie's vocal are on at least the chorus?

It's really strange that "Hold Me" isn't on the box set, even though "Love in Store "and "Only Over You" are on it, thoughs its on the condensed version.

Neither Seven Wonders or Welcome to the Room...Sara are on the box set. Seven Wonders wasn't even on the '88 set, except overseas, I believe.

Sorry... you guys are right, of course, and "Welcome To the Room, Sara" wasn't on The Chain. I was thinking of "Affairs of the Heart." "Hold Me" is my favorite Mac song of all time; as someone else said, the intertwining harmonies between Lindsey and Christine are just gorgeous. I've never noticed Stevie's voice on it, and wondered if anybody knew for sure if she was absent from it.

Are there any fan-mastered versions of "Hold Me" (or all of Mirage) out there that are superior to the pretty bad Warner CD master?

Great, thanks! I didn't buy "The Very Best," so I didn't realize the tracks on it had been remastered. Looks like I'm heading to Amazon!

It's worth it for the Tango, Mirage, BTW and GH tracks that haven't yet had the remaster treatment as part of an album reissue:

Gypsy
Hold Me
Love In Store
Seven Wonders
Everywhere
Little Lies
Family Man
As Long As You Follow
No Questions Asked
Skies The Limit

StevieNicksfann 04-23-2013 10:12 AM

There are two "ahhh's" in the background towards the very end of Hold Me that I thought were Stevie?
