Mick Fleetwood's Paiste Gong on eBay
 

Mick Fleetwood's 36" Paiste Symphonic Gong is on eBay. Mick has only owned two gongs in his entire career. The Paiste gong was his first, he bought it in Jan. 1970, and it toured with FM for 23 years.
In 1992, he had Pamelina (Fender Custom Shop) paint the gong with the image from The Zoo's "Shakin' the Cage" tour poster. From that point on, the Paiste gong was used only with The Zoo. He switched to a 38" Zildjian gong when playing with FM, which is what he uses to this day.

You're free to do what you want, but I've got the feeling that you only became a ledgie to sell a gong. In my humble opinion, you can bang your head against it, or sell it to the Zoo.

I've spent years researching this gong, Mick Fleetwood, and Fleetwood Mac. I joined The Ledge last year mostly because it has a wealth of information, and lots of great photos that I haven't found elsewhere. I also think the fleetwoodgong.com website might be of interest to some Ledgies, it pulls together info that I spent a lot of time tracking down. And maybe a few people here might be interested in the auction, it's one of the coolest items of rock memorabilia I've ever seen.

Honestly I'd love to own it but considering the opening bid would not meet reserve price I simply can't afford it. I think it should be displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Great piece.

I agree. If it were $300, I'd buy it in a minute, but when 1K doesn't touch the minimum....times are just too tough to part with that kind of dough.

Honestly(not being mean), I don't think Mick has that many fans that are willing to pay THAT price. Remember the attendance for his "Zoo" tours? Mick's a great personality, that keeps our favorite band together, but this ain't Stevie's undies we're talking about....;) (okay, 35 years ago);)

True, it is, but I just would have liked it if you shared some of you're interest in the wealth of information first before you put out the sale. It feels like spamming to me, but hey! If anyone is interested, you'd couldn't care less, I guess. It's just my opinion.

About being rude, sorry for that, I find spamming irritating. About the Everywhere video: I thought that was just a cool find of a ledgie, I took no notice of the source of that post.

I did exactly that in the "Introduce Yourself Here" thread when I first joined. I guess nobody reads that?

I understand. But a few things to consider-
1) Paiste still makes the 36" Symphonic Gong. With the stand, it retails for $3500. Like fine guitars, an 43-year-old old gong is worth as much as a new one, assuming it's not damaged.
2) Pamelina gets up to $10,000 to custom-paint a guitar. She's painted thousands of guitars, but only one gong. Check the "Bio" page on her website.
3) John Bonham's smaller 29" Paiste gong (no mount) sold for $64,660 in 2009. Yes, Led Zepplin is much more collectible than FM, but Mick's gong has much more history. So who knows what it might bring from a collector?

It probably won't sell on eBay, but it's worth a try. When I bought it, it was for my wife, I had no intention of ever selling it. But things have changed in my life, now I need to sell it.
