Annabel Lee for me. Sorcerer is ok, but I really like the 80's feel of the Marilyn Martin version best.

I agree. I was always pissed at whomevers desision it was to let Marilyn Martin sing "Sorcerer" on the "Streets of Fire" soundtrack. That version is so sublime and very "Wild Heart-y", Sheryl Crows version doesn't hold a candle to that 80's arrangement produced by Jimmy Iovine and played by most of Stevie WH studio musicians including Roy Bittan.I suppose they were trying to introduce MM on the national stage before her debut album was released in 84'.

Definitely "Annabel Lee" for me. I really am not a fan of the production on "Sorcerer." I think Sheryl Crow did a disservice to that song (no offense Sheryl!) The music in "Annabel Lee" is very Stevie-ish.

I'm a little burned out on the live version, but "Sorcerer" still wins it for me.

"Annabel Lee" is amazing up until the super repetitive last minute or so, which totally takes me out of the song... :sorry:

Weird, that repetitive last part has always been my favorite part of the song.

me too....and it's more like the last THREE minutes... LOL "I lie down... and then I lie down some more...." now let's throw in a "ooooooh" ... and then lie down... and lie down some more....

It honestly bamboozles me how anyone could like Annabel Lee more than Sorcerer. Sorcerer may be tired by now, but all versions are still sublime to me.

i'm in Sorcerer camp too. Annabelle Lee is not even Stevie's writing.. just ripped EAP's poem. Sorcerer has that lovely falsetto too! had to vote for it

Wild - the last 3 minutes - The builds in emotional height - are almost pure ecstasy for me

I guess it's not so much that the line is repeated, just that it's repeated ad nauseam!

3 or 4 times would have been perfect, but not 12. ;)

I love the ending of Annabelle Lee and the fact that it goes on and on. I love the fact that the song breaks down with just drums and vocals before soaring to new heights when the rest of the band kicks in again. And rather than peaking and then fading out, they sustain the crescendo... it's like, why kill the buzz, man? Just float with it and hang for a while. The subject matter of the song is dark and macabre, but the music and arrangements are filled with such sunshine and light. And the happy, uplifted vibe at the end is kind of ironic... as if Stevie is saying, "I will take great joy in mourning." It's kinda twisted but cool.

I absolutely love this analysis.
