Best Fleetwood Mac Song
 

Ok, I want to know what the Best FM song is. NOT YOUR FAVORITE but the best, there can be a difference. Yes it's hard as hell but still. It can be from ANY Fleetwood Mac album so all the ones before SN, LB, and CM joined. ]

This is really hard. So I'm picking two. They aren't my personal favorites to trump all favorites or anything, but if I had to introduce an alien to Fleetwood Mac I'd probably play them.

Also, the '82 live version of Hold Me really showcases their harmonies, as well as John and Mick.

Going through the scope of Fleetwood Mac, some of my favorite songs are the ones that have give a look into the writer's soul. "Man Of The World", "Before The Beginning", "The Green Manalishi", "Sometimes", "Why", "Landslide", "Dreams", "Oh Daddy", "Brown Eyes", "Gypsy", "Only Over You", "Welcome To The Room...Sara", and "Say Goodbye" I think are perfect examples of this.

But then, there were songs that just had a killer groove or just plain rocked, such as "Shake Your Moneymaker", "Stop Messin' Round", "Rattlesnake Shake", "Something Inside Of Me", "Oh Well", "Lay It All Down", "Child Of Mine", "Hypnotized", "Believe Me" (1974 live version), especially "Miles Away", "Rhiannon", "I'm So Afraid", "The Chain" "You Make Loving Fun", "Second Hand News", "Sisters Of The Moon", "I Know I'm Not Wrong", "Tusk", "Straight Back", "Isn't It Midnight", and "Save Me" come to mind.

Then there were songs where amazing for their orchestration/arrangement: "Albatross", "Future Games", "Sands Of Time", "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love", "Sentimental Lady", "Dust", "Remember Me", "Revelation", "Come A Little Bit Closer", ESPECIALLY "Say You Love Me", "World Turning", "Blue Letter", "Don't Stop", "Gold Dust Woman", "Angel", "Hold Me", "Little Lies", "When The Sun Goes Down", "Talkin' To My Heart", and "Bleed To Love Her" as examples.

The one song that I can that gives us a look into the writer's soul that has an amazing groove, rocks, and is amazingly orchestrated is "Go Your Own Way".

With the rich history of our favourite band, picking the best song is really hard so I think best broken down into era 1 & 2:

Green/Spencer/Kirwan: Closing My Eyes and Oh Well Pt 1 and 2

Spencer/Kirwan/McVie: Jewel Eyed Judy and Station Man

Welch/Kirwan/McVie: Woman of a Thousand Years and Future Games

Welch/McVie/Weston: Miles Away (opening riff is one of the best mac moments) and Believe Me

McVie/Buckingham/Nicks: Over and Over and The Chain (honourable mention to early live Rhiannons)

McVie/Nicks/Burnette/Vito: Behind the Mask and As Long as You Follow

McVie/Burnette/Mason/Bramlett: Sooner or Later and Dreaming the Dream

Nicks/Buckingham: Come and Thrown Down (hope to add one of the new songs here, fingers crossed :nod:)

Best Pop:
SYLM...early version (featured on the Best of) the beautiful arrangement and the harmonies!

Best Soul ballad:
Why (original and the white album touring, featured on Midnight Special) again the composition, arrangement and the harmonies!

What I wouldn't give to see this line up again and CM to revisit some of her classics pre BN!

Hard to pick just ONE as we all know there are so many Great F/Mac songs:thumbsup:

Definitely "The Chain", and, believe it or not, "As long As You Follow." The 4-part harmony and the atmosphere overall are addictive perfection.

I find it impossible to disagree with this, though I might narrow it down to just The Chain, if only because it's got more vocals from all three singers.

Personally, my pick is Dreams. It really is pop perfection - the song is totally flawless, timeless, and everyone on earth knows it.

All three are great songs. But Dreams has that special 'something'. I remember back in 2002, I was a bartender at a small neighborhood dive, and one night when I had about 15-20 customers, all lonely drunks, most sitting at the bar, Dreams came on the jukebox and I kid you not, every person in the bar sang along with the chorus. It was nothing less than epic.

No brainer for me - GYOW

I think Brown Eyes is a masterpiece. Every note is purposeful... yet the amount of "air" left in the song is just as vital to the song's effectiveness. It may not be Fleetwood Mac's biggest rocker, or contain their best lyrics, or be their most classic tune... but I still think it's their best song. :nod:

After reflection on my list, bringing it all down to one all time perfect Fleetwood Mac song, The Chain gets my vote. Although Over and Over absolutely mesmerizes me on each listen.

Black Magic Woman? Albatross? Man Of The World? The Chain? maybe GYOW?

Second Hand News is pure pop perfection imo.
