Stevie v. Kate Bush Tribute Night Aug. 17

I just heard about this. Sounds fun.

Trannyshack, San Francisco. Aug. 17, tix $12 advance.

Their website: dnaloungecalendar.com

With performers like Coco Canal and Cookie Dough...I may have to go!

I am trying to figure out a way to go to this...

I live in L.A. and it's a five-hour drive (or a $160 flight each) so I am biting the bullet either way.

We made a last-minute decision to drive for last year's Bjork vs Kate Bush Trannyshack and it was so worth it. As we neared the city, we went online and found a hotel right around the corner, parked, checked in and walked to the club right before the show started.

It was worth it. You can hear my laughter all over this clip:

^ As hilarious as that is, not all of the evening is spoof-laden.

In this clip, a female female impersonator (track that, this is an actual woman who has competed and controversially won a few drag contests) does a really fantastic and artistic take on Kate's "Jig of Life." Equally weird and cool is Peggy Legs' version of Bjork's "All Is Full Of Love," which follows.

I'm in Philly and there's a crazy part of my brain that is actually trying to figure out a way to attend this!

My only misgiving is that I looked up a few of their Stevie videos from last time they had a Stevie event....and they seem less inventive. It's like any old drag queen stood up and did a Stevie lip-synch without much movement or anything else. I'd be bummed if I went to the trouble to go and they didn't spoof, re-invent, orchestrate or otherwise ramp up the production value of her songs/videos.

I LOVE THIS! As a big Kate fan as well as Stevie, this event would be perfect! I can't wait to hear more about it after it's done!

Well at the last minute we decided to make the 6-hour drive and arrived just minutes before the performances began.

It was fun...some of the performances were brilliant, others just of questionable taste, but you really can't raise your eyebrows once you've bought your tickets and they say "trannyshack" on them. :lol

Here's one video I made -- Kate's "Army Dreamers" done by a real girl, real live(!) and a grotesque and witchy scenario following for the Mac's "Chain."
