Oh, that's so funny that he realized it was orchestrated. The pictures are great. The deep black background makes the image sharper, more vivid.

Well what a way to spend your wedding anniversary!

My husband & I were in Row 2 @ the end on the right. We did see you, Eugene, & your girlfriend, but I didn’t know @ the time that was you. I think I saw Abbi way down on the other side in the front, but no one was easy to get to as the chairs were packed together! I did have someone that I knew from work (we advertise on the radio station that she works for.) come find me @ the end. I had a “professional” photographer in front of me & I say “professional” because the guy must work for a local paper or magazine because a guy who works there @ the Queen was explaining about taking pictures. The photographer guy had a long, long lens on his camera (which he didn’t need being that close, he is in the front row) & the worker guy said “And no flash!” And the photographer said, “Oh no, I’m a professional”. Hmmmmm…. So I knew I could take pictures if he could.

My husband counted 15 guitars up in the back lined up, he said one for every song & I said more than one for every song & it was just one extra. Lindsey added that one extra due to the “conspiracy in the front row”. He also said that maybe the next time he would take requests. I think there were a lot of requests from the front row.

I took a few pics & two videos, one of GYOW & BTLH with my camera. I don’t have a You Tube account, so I don’t know how to post them otherwise, but they came out pretty good. I think there was too much light on Lindsey or something because his head was just nothing but white from were I was sometimes. And the light would reflect off his guitar & into the audience & at one point in the beginning, he was having fun shining the light in people’s eyes! And during GYOW, a few women in the audience got to touch Lindsey’s guitar!

I liked the show though I can’t say that I really loved it. Linds talked about the small & big machines, can’t have one without the other, blah blah blah. I would have like the Big Machine or even the Medium Machine more, but he did OK for just being there alone. I wasn’t thrilled with the set list; I don’t like some of the songs. I never liked “Come”, but I liked it what he really got into playing the guitar during this song. The audience didn’t warm up until he really got going, probably during Come & they liked Never Going Back. No standing mostly except by the front row, those conspirators!

I am really happy that this year, I got to see two of the best guitar players around & my favorites, Eddie Van Halen & Lindsey Buckingham.

Lee :)

Oh.....my....GOD. I am sitting here at work in shock. Thinking to myself that last night had to have been a dream, but it was not....

I got to the venue a little too late for my liking; around 7:40. I had nothing on me to bring, so I had stopped to pick up a copy of BN on vinyl at a shop I know of in Central Jersey. But that made for a long trip down to Delaware. With no time to stop home, I actually changed clothes in my car with people almost walking right by me outside, haha.

I grabbed my M&G pass at the box office and immediately went downstairs to the area where he would be playing...

The place was really cool. It was like the front half was an old theater, and the back was a modern bar. I went right to the front and saw Elle right away! After a quick hello, I scanned the room and looked to my right and I KNOW I saw you and your husband Lee!! I had fully intended to say hi but I was so nervous about being prepared, with only minutes to spare before the show -- as my plan was to quickly down an alcoholic beverage beforehand. I ran to the back to get one and the line was soooo long, I was afraid the show would start. Finally I got my drink and the show began in 2 minutes. I got out my essentials: camera, recording device etc. Turned everything on and tried to relax. There was NO space between the stage and the front row, so if you were up front, you were practically touching the stage. I was seated right UNDER his mic, and almost felt weird because I had never sat THAT close!! It was great but funny too. I could see up his nose:) What it actually made me do, was to focus on his playing and I could see the skilled way he uses every finger. I felt like I had a private show in my living room, he was just playing his heart out right in front/above me.

I definitely noticed more by being up close by myself, instead of with Janet at a table. I heard the "counting" before the songs, for example. I have to say this time, being right under him, watching the emotion on his face during "Not Too Late" was really special. It made me appreciate the song even more. I REALLY enjoyed watching him play "Stephanie." It was almost playful at times. Just a gorgeous piece of music and I feel lucky to have seen that up close like that. His face sometimes would break into a smile, out of the corner of his mouth, that he would then pull it in and it would stop. Like he had his own secret in his head. I know you know what I mean. He does it from time to time.

Yes there was a time he went to speak and he saw the glare of his guitar shining right on my face and he said "I'm blinding you aren't i?" or something and I was like "That's ok!" and I think it was Eugene's girlfriend shouted "She doesn't care!" hahaha! Then he proceeded to shine it at several people.

I will never ever grow tired of "Im So Afraid." I often wonder how it is possible to play the song hundreds of times and still feel every note. But it's amazing.

For the encore, i looked to my right and saw Elle had her fake setlist, and he looked at it and laughed. I knew it was now or never for "Rock Away Blind"!! I started to shout it, and then others followed suit. He looked at me and shook his head like "Oh I didn't want to do that.." and I pointed at him and shouted "I KNOW you can do it!" And he smiled and said "Oh you do, do you?" (After all he did it last week, on the second night in NYC, and that is the night I did not go!!) He then kind of motioned like "give me a second and i'll do it." I knew then it looked likely we won him over. He first did Trouble, but after that he did say "well this song wasn't in the set, but there is a conspiracy in the front row..." and then he went into the song Rock Away Blind. I jumped up and down a little bit like "OMG, it worked!!":blob1: Everyone around the front was going, "good job, he's doing it!" I kept looking over at Elle because I was so happy, but she had her camera in position and was capturing the moment! LOL. When he was done, he looked at me like "yeah?" I guess asking "was that satisfying?" LOL. I just shouted Thank you!

The M&G was smooth. We all waited in the front row to be summoned. The tour guy gave the same speech about his kid's braces, and not to squeeze his hand. There were about 20 of us. I recognized some people I met from the 92 Y event in NY last Nov. (Hi girls!!!)

Elle and and decided to go in as a pair. I had no idea what I was going to say. I was nervous holding everything and trying not to drop my camera/record/purse, etc. Finally it was time for us to go in the doors. (it was an area next to the left of the stage with a room painted almost gray or black and stairs in it.) He was standing in front of the wall, and two people were talking to him while Elle and I tried to hear what they were discussing. Then the security guy took my camera. And I walked to Lindsey. He said something about recognizing me from my song request. Then sure enough the guy held my camera backwards and took a picture of his own face!! I was like "oh wait, you..." and Lindsey laughed, and then the guy realized. Finally after getting it right, Lindsey said "well let's just take the picture now." And so he put his arm around me and posed, for two pictures. Then he signed my record and we talked a bit. I told him the times I saw him last Fall, and that I was in NY last week. The I told him I knew he did "RAB" on the second night and so I just had to hear it for myself. He said "ohhhh, i KNEW there was something going on with that!"

I thanked him for giving everyone the opportunity to see him doing this, and that I feel very lucky to have seen so many shows and to have met him, because there are people who have waited a lot longer than i have for all of that. He seemed to appreciate that. ( it was all a blur and i feel like i kept running my mouth). I asked about his songwriting technique and he explained about melodies just going thru the air and grabbing onto them. While standing there, I started to think of more and more questions, but it was time to let Elle have her turn:) I enjoyed watching that, as i got to relax then! I liked the way he leaned on the wall when he was talking!

When she was done, I quickly got in a hug and thanked him again, and we went out the doors excitedly.

Eugene it was nice meeting you, and I enjoyed being next to your g/f when she handed him the flowers. That was cute and I was so happy for her.

I wish i had time to meet more people. After the show, I turned around but Lee was gone. I am so sorry I didn't get back to you to say hello:(

I have to listen to the recordings of the the 2 shows, and see if i can get them out there for you.

I know some of you have a lot of shows coming up and I wish you all the best time together. Enjoy them and each other!! It's truly wonderful how this brings people together!

That was fantastic Abbi - I so enjoyed reading it!

Thanks so much for sharing Abbi. That's so cool that everyone got him to sing Rock Away Blind. I'm so hoping that he does that song for my show on Saturday in Columbus. Although, I would love to see him sing When She Comes Down. That has to be one of my faves off of Seeds We Sow. Reading everyone's comments makes me so excited for my meet and greet. He sounds so nice.

Peestie 06-12-2012 05:49 PM

This sounds like a great show. I'm glad you all got him to play RAB. Hopefully if he plays it enough times he'll make it a permanent addition to the setlist. If he only keeps one song from SWS in future sets it should be RAB.

Great review, Abbi

It sounds like in a very short time, you managed to cover a lot of ground with Lindsey  Nicely done!!

I hope your audio turns out. Keep us posted!
