On the Edge of Gold: Hard work paying off.

EDGE OF SEVENTEEN & LANDSLIDETwo Stevie Nicks compositions re-enter the Top 200 Digital Tracks Catalogue Chart this week. Edge of Seventeen is the big winner here. Stevie performed a version of her song as a duet with Christina Applegate during a segment of Up All Night, and it wasn't even the whole song - it was literally about a minute of the song. American Idol also played the track, a brief version during their "trio" segment on the 28th, it was part of a medley with two other Fleetwood Mac tunes. So it's remarkable that from those two appearances, the track gets some traction in the sales dept. The track re-enters this chart at # 44 selling 7,560 copies in the sales period March 26th to April 1st - up an incredible 180% over the previous week where it sold 2,704 single units. To date Edge of Seventeen has sold 481,140 copies which is just shy of being certified Gold! This total sales number is likely the number sold since November, 1991 when Soundscan began their tracking. It is also impressive because Edge of Seventeen has not nearly been promoted as much as Landslide. It's actually been doing quite well on its own.

Landslide moves up 168% in sales and re-enters the chart at # 57 selling a total of 6,776 singles vs 2,531 the previous week. To date Landslide has sold 834,515 single copies in the US.

Lanslide only went gold for Fleetwood Mac a couple of years ago. That means that is has sold over 300,000 copies in just the space of a few years. It will definitely be the first platinum single she has written. Alot of this has to do with all of her TV appearances. Everytime she was on the tube this song got a giant boost.

Keep in mind that nothing before 1991 counts towards gold or platinum digital achievements. Dreams went gold back in 1977 a vinyl single but has not went gold as a digital song.

We should thank the Dixie Chicks for the success of Landslide. Their version really put it over the top.

I will thank them not only for that, but for also being virtually nonexistent since!

I agree.I love to see "After The Glitter Fades " covered by a country artist and bring it to number one for weeks on the country charts,Also Stevie other country flavored tunes too.I still don't believe they are counting digital downloads as units sold.I rather have the physical copy in my hands.Digital copies are gone if your hard drive goes out the window.I'm glad to see Stevie's music is selling.

Didn't Glen Campbell or Dolly Parton cover it a long time ago?

I know Waylon did Rhiannon and Gold Dust Woman.

Were they even released as singles:shrug:.Could be that's why she kept Leather And Lace for herself after writing it for Waylon and Jessi Colter.

Hum.Thats a good question.I think they used these Stevie tunes for filler.I do agree about L&L.

I wish Waylon and Jessi Colter went ahead to cut the tune. But their relationship was on the rocks then.

The Chicks broke the mold for Stevie for getting her name recognized on the country music charts. To bad FWIW and Cheaper then Free from IYD was not pitched to program directors at country stations to play the tunes.. I still blame the label or who ever for not pushing her IYD cd altogether.

Well, I think in the last few years, Stevie has put it over the top with all her TV performances. Not just Dixie Chicks, though. Lots of other artists have sung it. I think Fleetwood Mac's version has now become the definitive version, surpassing the Chicks.

She kept it for herself because she knew it was a hit and Waylon and Jessi broke up right before she was going to give it to them. She had perfected the song with Don Henley, so if he wasn't going to sing it with Jessi, she might as well have the hit.

Because their versions were just ok, not a perfect as the chart successes. After the Glitter Fades was a song loved by Country Artists but it only reached in 70s on the country charts. They have resisted her.

I hate the Dixie Chicks version. Fleetwood Mac is the only version for me.

I am surprised that Leather and Lace and Standback are not gold. Then again, given the success of people like mariah carey tells me that musical taste is non existent.
