favorite cover by LB

All My Sorrows (cover - The Kingston Trio)
I Am Waiting (cover - Jagger, Richards)
It Was I (cover - Gary Paxton)
Satisfied Mind (cover - Red Hayes, Jack Rhodes)
September Song (cover - Maxwell Anderson, Kurt Weill)
She Smiled Sweetly (cover - Jagger, Richards)
This Nearly Was Mine [Instrumental] (Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein)
To Try For The Sun (Donovan cover - this is extensively reworked almost as much as Dewey song)
Blue Letter (cover - Rick Curtis, Mike Curtis)
Love Minus Zero/No Limit (Dylan cover with changed guitar parts)

btw, haven't decided yet what to do with winners of these separate polls, whether to take just the winning song or maybe two top songs, and how to eventually combine different poll results into some final poll... if at all. any ideas more than welcome!!

EDIT: guess Cool Water should have been on the list too... and maybe there are some other FM b-sides that are covers mainly sung by LB? oh well...

i love several of these ... so it's really hard to choose. my top 2 are To Try For The Sun and Love Minus Zero. they are way above others for me but having hard time deciding which one i like better. if he used original GOS version of She Smiled Sweetly, that may have been up there with these 2 songs but since he didn't.

OMG elle...I never realized how hard this is!

OMG.

I can't...ok, breathe in, breathe out...

"September Song" is out for me because it is crap.
SSS is great, but I love others more.
"It Was I" is delightful, but I think maybe too cute to be a contender up against some of those
"Satisfied Mind"= ditto above

So that leaves all the others!!!

OMG...

Dang...

I've boiled it down to the Donovan, Curtis/Curtis, Dylan, and the instrumental.

I LOVE TTFTS and the way he sings "the gypsy girl and me..."

But "This Nearly Was Mine" is perfect in every way.

And "Blue Letter" =:xoxo:

And the way he sings the Dylan song (love it more than the original)

Ok, I'm going with the Dylan song. It was hard, but I love to hear Lindsey go on and on- in MUSIC.

i finally decided on LMZ too - just b/c i listened to it about 100 thousand times and i still love it as much as when i first heard it. i still love his version of Donovan's song just as much but i didn't hear it quite as many times.

my order would be something like this:

Love minus zero
To try for the sun
She smiled sweetly
Satisfied mind
I am waiting
Blue letter
This nearly was mine
All my sorrows
It was I
September song

This was easier for me. I have others I consider favorites, but Try for the Sun is at the top of my list.

Is Blue Letter a true cover? Who recorded it first?

i have no idea, i do remember reading somewhere here that Curtis brothers recorded it after FM (?).

not written by LB in any case.

A cover is a song first recorded and released by someone else. I don't think Blue Letter is a true cover.

I went for TTFTS but it really could have been a lot of them. I've a real soft spot for A Satisfied Mind and SSS.

yes, me too! and then there is still unreleased Singer Not The Song and Gotta Get Away...

but LMZ and TTFTS just stand above all of them for me. they are just so perfect. flawless.

I can't handle all this stress with these polls :distress: Lindsey just has done too much good stuff!

I Am Waiting (cover - Jagger, Richards)
I've always loved Lindsey's version of this...both live on Soundatge, and on UTS and original GOS. The version he did at 92Y event last fall was amazing.

She Smiled Sweetly (cover - Jagger, Richards)
His original version from GOS is perfection. The official version from SWS still good...but once you've heard the original, it just doesn't compare.

This Nearly Was Mine [Instrumental] (Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein)
This along with Street of Dreams is so beautiful and touching. But even on it's own it's really good. Love it.

Love Minus Zero/No Limit (Dylan cover with changed guitar parts)
Elle got me listening to this last fall, and it became a favorite in no time flat. He is just so good at covers from this era ( Stones, Dylan, Donovan... ).

So, once again I've narrowed it down to four : /

where were you when i was trying to figure out what to put on the list?! ;) please check those other threads asking for input and let me know what you think - it would be really useful! :wavey:

[can't remove it now - or at least don't know how to ]

I forgot about that one. Geez, that's another that I always loved. Thank god it's never been officially released or my decision would be even more difficult now :distress:

Actually I think there is an original version of Blue Letter the Curtis Brother's did. I remember seeing it on youtube and chiliD's compliment about FM's version b/c of John's bass.
