I don't think Mick's looks have improved this century. Your change of view probably has more to do on what's happened to you on the inside, than what's happened to him on the outside.
And for me, voice alters my perspective too. Obviously, Mr. Wonderful and Heroes are Hard to Find album covers give me nightmares. But sometimes when I hear Mick's clipped, dulcet tones in an interview, I'm kind of charmed. His sound makes him look nicer. Then, again his personality causes him to lose the ground he's gained. I think of the guy who proposed to a woman who just got out of bed with another man and I'm repulsed all over again.

Back on topic, because this thread is about Stevie, I've often thought that a woman would be with a homely man because he could take care of her needs financially and in Stevie's case that he could help her become more successful somehow.

Yes. Mick mentioned that even though Rhiannon was a hit from the start and he also told her how important she was to Over My Head's success, Stevie was still insecure about her place in the band. I have no doubt that part of her attraction to him was the fact that he was the head of the group in which she wanted to solidify her claim. If Lindsey made any move to push her out, aligning with Mick would give her the power needed to fight back. Of course, I feel she did the same thing in Fritz. She'd have had a 40 year love/hate relationship with Bob Aguirre if she thought he had the potential to go places back then.
We gravitate towards those who might offer us security, career wise, home wise, financially and it's not necessarily a calculated thing. It's often instinctive. Just the way you start nesting when a baby is on the way. You are physically and emotionally drawn to things that might bring you comfort and stability.
