Love Is Like A River Question

Does anyone know who "Love Is Like A River" from the "Street Angel" album is about? I heard Stevie say it's about one of the stranger rock and roll stars she has been with, but does anyone know who it is about specifically? Or does anyone at least have any theories?

I thought it was about that computer baby, Joe Walsh.

I have no inkling of who the song is about, but it's long been one of my fav Stevie songs. More than anything, I really love the *passion* of this one. She's mad... and really lets that fury loose vocally. :D

Here's a possible theory, though. If the song is supposed to be about someone strange in the rock and roll community, it could certainly be about Rupert Hine. The timing would be right. And that whole situation had to of been pretty infuriating for Stevie. But that's what I like about this song... it's about getting MAD. But by getting mad, you're awakening your passion and snapping back into your true self. Not the deluded person you've become while dating the wrong person. I think it's safe to say we've probably all been in the same situation. I just love this song!!

Since there's a RAL-era demo of LILAR, I don't think the timing works for Rupert Hine.

"They say your life is wild! Compared to what lifestyle?" We know he Joe Walsh that to her, and we know it pissed her off.

Joe Walsh does seem to fit the bill. Didn't she say he was the love of her life? I wonder why she seems so upset with him in her songs. I don't know much about their relationship, if you couldn't tell.

THINKABOUTIT 01-09-2012 12:40 AM

Stevie has made numerous comments to Joe being the love of her life. I never understood it:laugh: As gorgeous as she is, she's made some weird choices...I can't help it. (Lindsey being the exception) :D

But yes, LILAR is a Rock a Little demo, so...hummm.....Ambiguity, you have to love it; hell, we should all be used to it ;)

Almost positive this song & it's near identical lyrical counterpart "She Calls Him Missing" are about the one & only dysfunctional coked up relationship with Joe Walsh.

i think she said it was about Joe....... something about the line "they say your life is wild, compared to WHAT lifestyle"

I have always loved this song!!!!
I agree with Louie about the MAD part!! I think, as is true with all her songs, there may be elememts of several people on it.
The "help him, help her, help him too" part always made me think of the trianlges of emotion within FM. I am probably wrong...but all in all this is just a kick ass song!!

It might be about somone who thought Stevie was uptight - I think your uptight lady. I'm not aware that she ever commented about the song.

Wish that Love is Like a River had made it into a set list. It's one of those songs that seems tailor-made for a live performance. I always thought that would have made a stunning way to open her Street Angel show.

Wrong song. Those are lyrics from Long Way To Go.

I realized that yesterday....but was too busy to come back an edit...

Thank you for pointing it ou!! Not much of a fan if I didn't correct that!!

For the record....I love both songs!

One of my favourites from Street Angel, along with Kick It.I wish had been performed live at least once.

I've actually always thought there's a really strong link between the songs. They follow on well... with Kick It being the conclusion of the perhaps destructive, angry relationship that inspired Locve Is Like A River - she had to give it up.

I think this is about Joe Walsh as well, but it raises a question I have had for years. I know Stevie and Rupert Hine fell out during (or after) production of OSOTM, but over what? What's the skinny on this Stevie and Rupert Hine thing?
