The Awakening by Kate Chopin is a beautiful book
I was inclined to pick it up on account of it having been considered scandalous when it was released 100+ years ago. I thought it was really intelligent and engrossing.
Its about a well-off young wife and mother who decides to quit obeying all social conventions. Her "awakening" is her realization that she has lived life adhering to expectations, and that she will henceforth do what she pleases. And it has the character of Robert Lebrun <3 Have you read it? Been assigned it in high school and thought it a chore? I suspect that it the type of book many people on this forum would like. |
Yes, I loved it and most anything Chopin wrote. She was ahead of her time.
