Black Friday

So I've only "done" Black Friday twice, and it's been several(7 or so) years, since I did. I was SO freaking miserable, the last time, waiting outside in the cold, and then trying to get in and out of the sardine can.

But this year, I'm going to try, again. The main reason is that it's starting at midnight!!! I'm not a morning person, AT ALL, so there's no getting up at 5AM, dealing with that crap.

The second reason is, that Best Buy has a 42" LCD TV for $199! And a 24" for $80. Hello bedroom and kitchen!!!! As frugal as I am, and HATE discarding my working CRT TVs that I already have, I CAN NOT pass up these deals. A 42", IN MY BEDROOM!

Who's going?

KarmaContestant 11-23-2011 01:35 PM

Not me...maybe. I'm hoping to avoid shopping, but my mother-in-law is a professional and I'm sure she has planned the day for us already.

Good luck on those TVs! Quantites are usually limited to 2-3 per store so it can get crazy. Let us know how it goes. :)

I'm working all day at my retail job on Black Friday.

Yeah.

HomerMcvie 11-23-2011 01:46 PM

The ad says minimum 15 per store, of the 24", and 10 per store, on the 42". I'm planning on getting there an hour before they open, and hoping for the best!

After having worked in retail for many years in the past, I don't "do" Black Friday... I think it's an ill of society. That said, I can fully appreciate that deals are to be had. ;)

Brandon, I couldn't have said it better. I can spot a great deal but I worked on days like that in retail far too many times... days which are their own special brand of Hell. Same goes for Boxing Day sales. Stay at HOME - you mean people who can't wait an extra day to return a gift!

Well, and I'm totally willing to have a 32" for $200, but IF I have a shot at a 42" for the same price, I've GOT to TRY!!!

I know one thing. I'm not going to get trampled on for a LCD tv set or a laptop at 5am friday morning. It's a shame that people lost their lives because some nutcase shoppers want to get a big deal of the year. It happend already in the past couple of years. The news said this year alot of people will be do their buying on their Ipads and their computers. So all the shipping outfits will be very busy delivering packages at 8pm at night until the holidays. Come think about it All of these years as a Stevie/FM fan . I never stand outside and camp out all night for tickets.I'm not going to rise out of a warm bed at 4:30am camp out at a store for a tv set or a cheap laptop.Unless Stevie is doing a CD signing there.Hehehehe......

P.S. Good Luck shopping.Be safe.....

BTW I think WB records should promote IYD with ad's in the media for this holiday. But I doubt it.

I love Black Friday! It's my favorite holiday (sorta). Since I live in the middle of nowhere, I go to the local Wal-Mart first (And by local, I mean 15 miles away in another town), and shop there to warm up. Then I go to another town (35 miles away) where all the stores are, the Mall, Kohl's, Barnes & Noble, etc. and by the time I get there, the lines are all down, but all the good stuff is still there, and it's easier to move around, though still hectic. I'm not one of those people who are gonna camp out or stand in line outside of a store waiting for it to open just to buy one item when I might not even be able to get it anyways. The way I do it it's alot less of a headache. Also for those that are going and go to Wal-Mart, check out at the jewelry counter. Hardly anyone ever thinks to check out there and the lines are way shorter.

I've seen all the prices, and at least on electronics, Best Buy seems to be kicking Walmart's ass....

mylittledemon 11-23-2011 06:33 PM

I was further soured on Walmart a few years back after that person got trampled in the Black Friday rush of mad cows, and died. That says it all to me right there.

But again... in these days of shaky economic times I reckon you must save a dollar when you can.

Did you pick up the TV you were after?

It's still 29 hours until the sales start....
But come on....a 42" LED for $199!!!!! I'll risk getting trampled!;)

mylittledemon 11-23-2011 07:15 PM

Oh sorry, i forget its not here yet... Good luck on the new tube

Well it's not like I need it. I just got 55" for the family room, a few months ago, at BB. But when something seems like a deal that too good to be true, I almost can't pass it up!

Thanks, though!

iamnotafraid 11-23-2011 08:25 PM

I was tempted by that TV too.
But I know I won't fight a mob
to get it. Good luck Homer!

Personally I think the stores that
are opening on Thanksgiving day
should be ashamed. Everyone in
America deserves that day off.
Pure greed.
