IYD sales

Anybody have any idea how many copies of IYD have moved? A month or so ago people were saying 150K or so.

mitzo 11-24-2011 06:42 PM

Probably close to 200K by now.

Macfanforever 11-25-2011 12:03 AM

I hope she will get some holiday sales,WB is not promoting her cd.

PolishStevieFan 11-25-2011 06:04 AM

I think, that promotion is not great, but I didn't expect anything else. They don't want to promote 63 year old woman because there are so many teenagers who need their support:laugh: Stevie is legend and her status alone sold this album. If given tight marketing "In Your Dreams" could have been one of the biggest selling albums of the year. People at big record labels seem to forget that audience doesn't need another Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez. We need a bit of true music in this endless sea of pretentious, "computerized", auto-tuned music. I talk to a lot of people about music and there seems to be consensus, that we need a lot more down to earth music, something in the vein of Stevie Nicks' latest effort. Luckily sales statistics don't tell anything about the quality of the album itself. It's just the album, that with or without Gold or Platinum certifications stand above the rest of competition. Let's leave sales obsession to Marketing departments at record labels and youngsters who just start their careers... You know Stevie's been there, done that... She has enough of Platinum reminders... The great achievement is that being 63 year old woman she was able to put her album in the Top 10. Have you seen Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, Debbie Harry or other female rock veteran lately to do this?

True she went top 10 at first, which is a victory in itself. And she sold around 150K in about 5-6 months. But I get a sense that there is a slow and steady flow of sales for IYD. Might it hit the 250K mark soon?

I wish she would take courage from IYD's critical success and give us one more right away - the "Rhiannon" project!

Sorry, but no. IYD fell off the charts 2 months ago. Since then, it's been selling less than, say, 2,800 units a week. They're still trickling in, but I can't imagine she's added more than 20K since late September (and that's being optimistic).

Stevie said in an interview that the IYD sales have been "bubbling along", and it hopped back on the charts at least twice (once coming back in all the way up at #150, not bad for a re-entry months after release). The last official number I saw was a couple months ago and IYD then was at something like 163,000.

I think Stevie is so keen on continuing to promote it into next year because it is continuing to "bubble along". Kudos to her because it really is a brilliant album (IMO her best ever) and there are a number of songs on it that could still be released as singles. I'm glad she's planning on doing that.

mitzo 11-26-2011 06:56 PM

Where does one find official numbers?

mitzo 06-03-2012 11:14 AM

No updates from anyone about sales dat after a year of IYD? Some here seemed to have access to data during the early months...

tabruns 06-03-2012 09:50 PM

Yeah

Yeah let's see some official soundscan numbers!

Man, does it matter? IYD sales sucked, period , at this point , how can one defend lets say what 165 k sold so far when that same person sold millions in the past, sorry a bomb is a bomb, im talking SALES only, not the album itself, maybe its good, who knows, but the album sold shi* and sales suck period, im sorry, numbers dont lie

its like arguing did Dan Marino win a super bowl, at the end of the day, no matter what u can argue, he didnt, ZERO, so IYD did it sell ? answer no

Wow...that was pretty harsh. How can you compare sales of albums in the 70s and 80s to sales today. You can't. People just dont buy CDs anymore. That is what mostly has come into play here...that and the realization that she isnt at the top of the list for a lot of people to run out and buy music anymore except for us die hards.

This is the twilight of Stevie's carreer, mainstream success and airplay and album sales are NEVER going to be what they were at their peak, and I don't think anyone wise would expect them to be. You just can't compare it to the past. Stevie's not a 30 year old sex symbol anymore and rock music is dead... her status today is much more that of an icon rather than a phenomenon. So she may not sell a million copies, but she still receives considerable attention and praise for her work. Her album cracked the Top 10 and sold fairly well afterward. Not to mention that artistically it exceeded all aspirations for most. What more can you ask for?

There's no need for such negativity.

tabruns 06-04-2012 02:59 PM

David, take your Ritalin. Way to flip out over people just asking for information.

Besides your argument is completely bogus. If you want an apples to apples comparison, compare IYD to sales of other legacy acts that are producing albums now. You'll see that IYD outsold Heart's top 10 album "Red Velvet Car", outsold Aretha Franklin's album, outsold Blondie's "Panic of Girls", and probably outsold most legacy artists' albums that have come out in the last several years.

In this time and place IYD was a success. If you have to rely on comparing it to Stevie at the height of her career to claim its a "bomb" then obviously you have a weak argument.

Macfanforever 06-04-2012 04:08 PM

Probably thanks to all the internet freeloaders that hi-jacked IYD she could of sold more.I can understand where Stevie's coming from on her side of the fence about internet pirates.

On the otherhand they say the music industry is hurting in sales.I always say start producing good tunes and maybe they will sell.Produce crap .get crap on return. The industry died in the late 1980's and 1990's before the internet came around.
