Good game! There are a couple I'm very surprised about but the one that stands out is No Spoken Word winning RAL. Really guys?

why? It's an amazing song...and I think one of her strongest vocals on the record.

Agreed. Strongest lyrics on the record as well.

Although I think Long Way To Go is far superior to Rooms On Fire I can appreciate how others could see it the other way around. However, I don't understand how Edge of Seventeen could lose to How Still My Love...

Never thought of that but how about the music? Is it all that outstanding musically? Catchy chorus but nothing exceptional in my opinion.

Say what? This is also a real shocker because I literally can't even listen to that song because the music totally eh hem, disagrees with me . Then again I do have a thing against any Stevie song containing the word garden in the title.

So, to the red rose grows the passion.

I'd have to agree with you on this point as well. the instrumentation of No Spoken Word is not outstanding. I'm a lyric guy, though, and they are what drive my enjoyment of a song. Instrumentation is nice, but until the lyrics grab me I don't show much interest in a song. No Spoken Word has great verses!

Oddly, I love a lot of instrumental tracks - especially European electronica and 50s style lounge music.

What about our beloved Silver Springs? It at least deserves an honorable mention for FM songs. I say we have one more round for honorable mentions!

I think it's one of Stevie's most mysterious songs because you never really know the whole story. Yes, it is referencing a somewhat tumultous relationship... but the specifics are unknown. She could be talking about a romantic relationship or a friendship or possibly (and more probably) multiple relationships. There are many layers to this song which I one of the things I love most about Stevie's songwriting. Whatever she's talking about, she's royally pissed off and defiant and that comes through loud and clear in the vocal. I also like that this song has more of a rocking feel than most of the songs on RAL which makes for a refreshing change.

Here's the biggest surprises for me:

Bella Donna: How Still My Love
I thought "Edge of Seventeen" was going to win

Rock A Little: No Spoken Word
I thought "I Can't Waite" was going to win

Trouble in Shangri-La: Trouble in Shangri-La
I thought "Planets of the Universe" was going to win

Can't we do more? I mean, I was horrified at most of the eliminations, but....
