The editors at Time magazine have selected what they consider the 100 best songs ever… with a few caveats.

No artist was allowed to appear more than once (hence, titans like The Beatles and Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson have a single entry apiece), the list is restricted to English-language pop tracks, and “all time” goes back only as far as Time‘s founding in 1923.

right. not one U2 song for the 80s or 90s? i'm sorry but...:rolleyes:

^^^^Thank, God! U2 is awful. But, to that point, no "Lips Like Sugar" for the 80s!?!? Blue Monday for New Order (arguably their worst song) instead of "True Faith" (the greatest single of ALL TIME. period. the end.). NO SMITHS???!!!!!!! -- that automatically makes the list null and void.

"Being Boring" is not the best Pet Shop Boys track, but it is the height of their sophisticated pop--my aunt and uncle would pick it as their best, I'd wager. It's a great song.

I also don't necessarily agree with their choice for the one beatles song..... but it's still a great song.

I'm glad Fleetwood Mac made this list. It makes sense that Dreams was the song chosen since it was their only #1 hit song.

Some of the song choices for the other artists are interesting. :cool:

There's a few choices on there that make me think "...really?" like Single Ladies for Beyoncé instead of Crazy In Love.

Dreams is a great song and all, but I would have chosen The Chain, Rhiannon, Little Lies or Go Your Own Way, from Fleetwood Mac, I think. But still, I guess Dreams got chosen because it was their only #1.

I'm glad you posted this list because I am now interested in knowing songs from 1960 and before. These selections are a good place to start.

To be honest I hate this kind of "all time best" lists:mad: When I don't know exact criterions of selection I have doubts of the general quality of these lists. Of course it's great to see "Dreams" but on the other hand why not "Rhiannon"? Why they chose these artists while excluding others? For example: Madonna's "Borderline" was far less memorable and important than Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" (which served as a women anthem back in the day) or even Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" (which started a new phase in female rock). And U2 was criminally overlooked :( It's not an all time best list it's just somebody's playlist, that's all.

Overall, I really like this list, some pretty decent choices. :)

I am kind of surprised that there isn't an Eagles song in there, not because of any personal preference but just because of the typical nature f these sort of lists.

I'm suprised by that list to be honest not really liking it.
