Snake! Snake!! Snake!!!
I'm not exactly Rudyard Kipling but I did have my own
Rikki Tikki Tavi moment tonight. This story is not for the faint of heart... It's been a long dry Summer down here in the Heart of Dixie. And if you're familiar with my other tales of creepy crawly things, you know what happens to them if we cross paths. This particular snake deserves his own story. And in telling it, you might think twice before considering attending one of the Ledge parties at my casa. I have seen less of these sometimes deadly creatures this year than I can ever remember. All Summer long I have not taken the life of one of these creatures. As a matter of fact I can only remember seeing one far down the road I mow. I had nothing to kill him with except the mower. And I would have had trouble getting to him. Since he was a black snake (non-poisonous) I let him go. Just a few days ago I was mowing the lawn for hopefully one of the last times this year. It's a big yard, about two and a half acres. And while mowing the thought of snakes, or the lack there of did enter my mind. It was a pleasing thought. Tonight after getting a license tag for my new Silverado and other sorts of things that necessitate a trip to Walmart. I made it back to the house to devour six tacos and my favorite cran-grape drink. And after flipping it back and forth between Fox News and CNN, a bathroom break was in order. I usually don't use many lights in the house. So I walk through the dark kitchen then down the hall and open the door to the bathroom. I flip on the light... and there it was! Crawling on the bathroom floor was a snake! I close the door quickly, run to the utility room to find something with a long handle on it. Run back down the hall with broom in hand. Open the door to do battle. The floor is marble tile, which I didn't want to break. Though believe me I would have if necessary. With the broom I headed the snake toward the closed glass doors of the shower. I didn't want him to get in there because I was afraid he'd go down the drain and come back later. How did I kill him you ask? As I held him down with the bristles of the broom. I took my sandal off, after making sure he didn't have much striking distance. And with my jungle skills I struck. While I wouldn't recommend using such weaponry to do battle with, it did the job. There you have it. Take heed to these words of warning though. Look around before you plop yourself down. You never know if Nag might be waiting for you. |

I'll bet I hate snakes more than ANYONE.:( |
In Florida some snakes are protected and actually help control other critter populations around your home. Down here you just call animal control and they'll come out and deal with anything you want removed.

Literally half an hour ago, my father was telling me about the time he, aged 12, killed and ate a snake. I can't even imagine--those things freak me out!
|
EEEK. If I ever found a snake in my house I'd have to move. How did you kill it with a sandal? Years ago I took a first aid and safety class. One day we were being taught how to treat ourselves if we were bitten by a snake. I asked the instructor if we would also be learning how to treat ourselves for a heart attack, because if I ever got bitten by a snake, I would have one.

Having lived in Texas and Louisiana, I'm well aware of the fear and horror snakes bring with them, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to kill one. |

Wow.I'm glad it was in the bathroom, not in the bedroom under the bed covers.Last weekend at the local octoberfest .They had snakes diplayed at the event.
They had a big white python I think in a big plastic container .he's got to be about 5 to 6 inches round. I should of ask questions with the owners. |

Oh yeah, I made a special box on my lawn tractor, which holds a handgun nicely. See f*cking snake? Blow snake into the next county! |

I'm reasonably terrified be them. I have a couple of friends that have them as pets.....when they invite me over, I always tell them, "only if your snake stays in it's ~cage~, and you don't take it out, and torture me, by trying to make me like it" (Yeah, that previous sentence is full of double entendres, and there's not much I see, to get rid of them:laugh:). |
I don't have a fear of them, but I sure as hell wouldn't want one in my house!

^^ That's probably what I looked like when I turned on the light. Homer I couldn't use the 9mm inside the house. Fringed I didn't have time to call animal control. Mezzo I was a little freaked out myself at the time. PaleShadow I smashed the head of the snake up againts the wall and tile with my sandal. It was bloody, but I didn't have much choice. Macfanforever I'm glad it was in the bathroom instead of the bedroom for sure. I wouldn't have been able to sleep. Skcin Tell Carrie of my snake troubles. JannieC If you'd been here, I would have let you guard the door while I went for the broom. |
