Fleetwood Mac may NOT tour in 2012!

So after all this talk of them touring in 2012, Lindsey spills the beans that he really doesn't know!

Fleetwood Mac fans might want to hold off on plans to celebrate a 2012 tour and new album from the legendary band. Although various news reports have claimed the band mates will make music together in 2012, Lindsey Buckingham says now that may well not be the case.

“If I knew the real story, believe me, I would tell you. I wish I could. I would like to know what I’m doing next year,” the guitarist tells Ultimate Classic Rock. “If you had asked me two months ago, I would have said ‘Absolutely.’ Now I’m not sure.”

One reason, said Buckingham, is that vocalist Stevie Nicks is enjoying the success of her just-released solo album ‘In Your Dreams’ which has been critically lauded as her best music in a decade. In addition, Buckingham said his own schedule is uncertain. He is currently touring behind his just-released solo album ‘Seeds We Sow.’ (Read our review of ‘Seeds We Sow.’)

“There may be another leg of [my solo tour] this year. That remains to be seen,” he said. “Stevie is doing a lot of different things. She is having fun [touring and supporting] this album. I don’t begrudge her that. She enjoyed the process of recording it, and I don’t she had a good process of [recording an] album in a long, long time…”

Yet Buckingham is clear that he expects to work with Fleetwood Mac again, even if it is not as soon as next year.

“Yes, Fleetwood Mac will do something in the future,” he said, adding he expects to work solely with Nicks again, too, although there are no concrete plans for that either. “There’s just nothing on the books right now…This is a time for me to take stock all of the things I’ve done in my life, all the people I’ve been down the road with, and all the things I’ve experienced…and just appreciate them. When you revisit them, you want all of these things to be in a place where they have dignity.”

Very intriguing...I wonder if that will ever end up happening.

My guess? They will, and it will be the last thing either of them does musically. If for no other reason that Lindsey's excitement at the opportunity to discuss his Faith in Cycles in every interview and at every show.

As for this latest development, I'm pleased they're not doing a greatest hits tour, but I wish he were talking about recording a new album sooner rather than later. We'll see. Sounds like Ms. Nicks wants to extend her tour, though, which I'm totally cool with.

"dignity"?? Since when has THAT ever entered the Fleetwood Mac lexicon?

I really wouldn't cross that possibility off just yet- you know how unfathomably flakey this group of people is.

I do hope they start recording a new Mac album next year, as both Lindsey and Stevie are having the time of their lives recording individually. Seems like it'd make sense to roll all that good juju into recording with the Mac. But logic has never entered into the Fleetwood Mac lexicon...

You're right, I'm getting way ahead of myself. Tomorrow, Mick Fleetwood will announce a 3-year world tour and the addition of Sheryl Crowe.

it's funny, he's been saying that he doesn't know from the start but it was spun in a way that it sounded like they will tour for sure. guess now he must have talked to SN and she must have said it's definitely not happening yet...

either way, he sure is getting a lot of mileage in the press for saying these things - and any publicity is good publicity!

Yeah I don't think the article told us anything we didn't already know... even Lindsey didn't know he really just kept saying he was hopeful they'll do something. I think that they will, but also at this point, nothing surprises me with this band in terms of them getting back together/not getting back together.

What I really think Fleetwood Mac should do is make another record and tour. Then the band can retire, and Stevie and Lindsey can finally release Buckingham Nicks and tour together behind that knowing they've come "full circle." (And Lindsey won't have to mention it in interviews anymore) ;)

I'm not really surprised by any of this. Both Stevie and Lindsey appear to be happy/content with their solo careers. I just don't think they have any desire to do another FM tour, album, EP, whatever.

Sucks for Mick and John though.

Well at least Lindsey seems open to something with Fleetwood Mac. I think he's at a point where he's enjoying being back in the band... he just wants to get his solo stuff out of the way first.

Who really cares at this point what they do solo or as a group effort. It's just not relevant any more. Do what you want, the world doesn't care!

Stevie still tours, Lindsey still tours... the band still puts on arena shows...

I think some of the songs off the last few records Lindsey has put out especially are terribly relevant. I don't think I would've even understood or "gotten" half the stuff on Under the Skin without the loss of my father. That record is now part of the soundtrack of that time in my life... So really to say the band or Stevie, or Lindsey solo for that matter, are incapable of making music that's relevant is asinine. ;)

But I think I get what you mean in that they should all just do whatever because the world isn't paying attention?

Gonna have to agree with this one. Until tickets are on sale or a release date is announced for any album I won't be at all surprised to hear that any projects are on, off, maybe, possibly, if we can be bothered....

Demon - that would all be perfect.
