TC Palm Interview
[Same message, but wording a little different]
Florida Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches, September 28, 2011 by Isadora Rangel http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2011/sep/...music-his-own/ After selling millions of albums worldwide with Fleetwood Mac and after 30 years signed to Warner Brothers, guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham has taken a "do it yourself" approach to his latest album. The 61-year-old recently self-released "Seeds We Sow," the sixth album in his solo career. "The model of major labels has been broken for some time," Buckingham said. "With commercial success, the label wants you to repeat the formula of that brand. It's a valid business idea, but it's not valid if you're an artist." Buckingham will perform Oct. 4 at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce. His playlist will include songs from his new album and old hits, such as Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" and songs from their album, "Tusk." Buckingham began working on "Seeds We Sow" — which he calls his best solo album — after Fleetwood Mac's last tour ended in 2009. "There was no reason to sit around and hit the golf course," he said. Buckingham isn't ruling out another Fleetwod Mac tour or album. He said the group has good chemistry together, though its members have different perspectives on music. "I never think in terms of a reunion," Buckingham said. "We are always together but not always touring." Buckingham refers to Fleetwood Mac as his "big machine," and his solo career is the "small machine." Commercial success is not a priority at this stage of his career, he said, and he calls working on a solo album more "esoterical." "With Fleetwood Mac, we were having success as a group, but that doesn't mean our personal lives were successful," he said. Buckingham and vocalist and ex-girlfriend Stevie Nicks split up a year after the band's first album was released. The turmoil of their breakup inspired many songs in their 1977 hit album "Rumors." The two are friends today, he said, and they recently spent time together while Nicks was working on her new album. Married with three children, Buckingham believes he has found success in his personal life, which, he said, gave him "other things to think about." Still, he has been prolific in his solo career — "Seeds We Sow" is his third album in four years. And Buckingham recognizes that his career always will be tied up with Fleetwood Mac. The TV hit show "Glee" recently dedicated an episode featuring songs by the band. Buckingham didn't watch it, but, he said, "if things cross generations and work their way into the fabric, then you have done your job." |
