Stevie on the Eagles, Kate Bush and Pat Benatar

Stevie's on BBC's Radio 2 this week with Ken Bruce, selecting the "Tracks of her Years." Yesterday, she selected "Witchy Woman" and "Running Up That Hill" and had some great things to say about the Eagles and Kate Bush. Today she selected Dan Fogelberg's "Auld Lang Syne" and Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield."

Thanks for this. I love to hear Stevie talk about songs besides her own.

Life In The Fast Lane (1977)

Another cracking song that captured the zeitgeist of 1970s LA and also badly misinterpreted. Rather than celebrating the drugs/sports car/disco excesses of the time, it's an articulate and cautionary tale of a glamorous couple - rumoured to be based on Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham - who party hard and burn out. Like many Eagles songs, the confusion occurs because the tempo and expansive guitar solos give it a celebratory feel. In the 2013 documentary History of the Eagles, Frey explained the title: "I was riding shotgun in a Corvette with a drug dealer on the way to a poker game. The next thing I know we're doing 90. Holding! Big time! I say, 'Hey man!' He grins and goes, 'Life in the fast lane!' I thought, 'Now there's a song title'."

I wonder who she is talking about when she says "famous jeweler" as the inspiration for Witchy Woman?

Google Zelda Fitzgerald. I believe she was the witchy woman inspiring Henley.
