When She Comes Down (download)

Sorry for yet another post but I though people might want to know that you can now download When She Comes Down (and the radio edit) from Amazon.co.uk right now. I'm currently on first listen and it's certainly lush!

So, my thoughts on it are that it's a good song. Better than I expected from the clips. The lyrics are... minimal... They're certainly not going to win him any awards.

I know he said he wrote it for his wife but there's a certain amount of menace to the line before the final chorus. I like Stevie's "is it about some goddess?" comment and I think it'd fit better than as a song to a loved one.

I also like that it doesn't fade out, even though it's exactly the kind of song that normally would. I hope none of the songs on SWS have fades. He seems to have stopped with them since the only songs with fade outs on UTS and GOS were from the 1990s GOS sessions.

I could not get the mp3 because of geographical restrictions. But thanks for letting us know. I'm going to watch our Amazon site like a hawk now.

That's a shame. Hopefully it'll be available there soon!

The lyrics are:

She is waiting
She is waiting
She is dreaming
She is dreaming

And/then (?) we'll all go to meet her
Yes, we'll all go to meet her
When she comes down
When she comes down

She is watching
She is watching
She is hoping
She is hoping

And/then (?) we'll all go to meet her
Yes, we'll all go to meet her
When she comes down
When she comes down

Now she's dancing
Now she's calling
Now she's laughing
Now she's falling

And/then (?) we'll all go to meet her
Yes, we'll all go to meet her
When she comes down
When she comes down
When she comes down
When she comes down

I keep thinking of "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain" whenever the 'we'll all go to meet her' part comes along.

Those lyrics are underwhelming. Just because whatshername said he wasn't good with words doesn't mean he has to prove her right.

But actually I like the "now she's falling" part, because the others are all physical acts, but the falling indicates that she's falling in love and it's a very nice way to describe the commencement of romance. It's almost like what you'd see in a movie montage, the different shared activities (dancing, calling, laughing) the couple experiences, which tie them closer together, leading to the inevitable.

Of all the clips we've heard, next to Seeds We Sow, this one is the worst choice for first single. Yet, it's not bad at all. I've no complaints. The other 2 songs we haven't heard, Rock Away Blind and Gone Too Far sound amazing. Sixty-one and nailing it.

I'm all for a Hoe Down. If he used his banjo on it, it might sound better. Heaven knows Say You Love Me sounded incredible that way. But that was an incredible song to begin with. Falling, falling, falling.

It's also on Spotify if people want to listen for free and just wait for the album to buy it.

But not in America on Spotify yet either. Michele

It's a wonderful song. Very weird, lyrically, and special. At first, from the clip, I didn't like it at all, but as a whole, it's a gorgeous soundscape with a bit of an absurdistic "story" in the lyric. The falling is crucial here, and not only in words. To be honest, and I never thought I would, I love it.

does anyone know when a US download will be made available? Very jealous :(

michelej1 08-21-2011 04:00 PM

I learned from "Everbody Loves You" that a song clip can be very deceiving. Not only can a clip fail to give you the whole story, sometimes it doesn't even give you the correct genre. So, based on what has been said, I'm going to reverse all the prejudgments I've made about "When She Comes Down.".
