Stevie on Being Jann Arden

"Who the heck is Jann Arden?" I can hear my non-Canadian friends out there saying. I'll explain:

I have two most favourite female singer/songwriters of all time: Stevie Nicks and Jann Arden. Jann is one of Canada's national treasures, but largely flies under the radar of the American cultural scene like most of our homegrown talent (aside from the blockbuster Dions, Twains and Bubles). Anyhow, she writes deeply introspective lyrics - a lot of them about pain and loss, much like Stevie. Still, her uptempo songs remain catchy and upbeat while her more brooding ones can be infectious and heart-tugging. Check her out if you haven't heard of her, and message me if you want to know what, in my opinion, her best tracks are!

To the point: Jann, one of Canada's absolute biggest music stars, has been given her own radio show - which makes sense, because everyone can relate to her. She's got a dry and witty humour but can also be quite tender and soft.

Her guest for her Saturday show on CBC Radio for September 3rd is Stevie Nicks. This is blowing my mind, because yes - they're my two best singin' ladies but also because I often wondered what Jann thought of Stevie and if she was a fan. I also wondered if Stevie knew who Jann Arden was and if she'd like her music. Worlds have collided and my Canadian fave is interviewing my American fave.

Sorry to have gone on and on...but it's kind of an event up here. Check out the link and read a small blurb about the Stevie show:

An aside: I think that the interview will be, or has already been, pre-taped. Either that or it will be a live phone interview. There's no way that Stevie's popping by downtown Calgary, Alberta when she's got a show that night in Bristow, VA. I was hoping that her appearance on the show signalled an upcoming Canadian date around that time. No such luck.

I think many Americans would be familiar with her song "Insensitive". :)

Wow. I like Jann Arden... but I had no idea she had even released a record since "Love Is The Only Soldier"

True - she received huge worldwide acclaim for that song after it was featured in the 1996 film Bed of Roses with Christian Slater.

For some perspective, she's released over ten albums, had 17 top ten hits and has won eight Juno Awards - the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy.

Anyhow, I know this forum is about Stevie, but that's just some info for all of you who are wondering who's going to be interviewing her on September 3rd. You can, of course, listen to the show after its posted on the website.

She's released more than a few albums since then, and some of it is among my favourite Jann material. New album and book out on November 1st!

Jann played before Stevie at the Mix 96 concert in Boston Commons.

the funny thing is about Insensitive, it sounds like a Stevie Nicks becuase it's very sensitive. I remember when that came out and wishing that Stevie would of had a song like that on Street Angel.

I can't wait for this interview! It should be interesting to hear Stevie interviewed by another performer who has also had success. Thanks for the heads up
