Queen of Pop?

The last issue of Rolling Stone crowned Gaga as the Queen of Pop...resulting in reader outrage.

After leaving it up to the readers, Madonna won by a landslide, getting 5 times the votes that Gaga got!

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ph...110706/0906358

Of Madonna, the magazine said:

1. Madonna
To say that Madonna won this poll in a landslide would be like saying that she was a kind of popular pop singer in the 1980s. It wouldn't even begin to explain the scope of the situation. She received five times as many votes as Lady Gaga, who landed in second place by a very comfortable margin. The only persistent criticism that Gaga has dealt with in recent years is that she's too much like Madonna. It's a hard shadow to escape. Madonna is a musical icon without peer. Her run of hits over the past 30 years is simply astounding, and when she hits the road, tickets sell like it's a Led Zeppelin reunion tour. Sure, her last few albums didn't match up to the classics. Nobody cares. She's Madonna. Lady Gaga has accomplished more in recent years than any artist of her era, but she's still got a long climb until she reaches Madonna level. It's very likely that no other artist will ever reach it though. Her manager Guy Oseary recently tweeted that she's started recording her 12th studio album, so clearly she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

(Elton John ranked 9th. )

Madonna will always be the Queen of Pop and Michael the King!

LG fans are just jealous, most (esp on youtube) sound like annoying teenybobbers that need a lesson on reality! :wavey:

I never liked Madonna, so I could never call her my personal Queen of Pop. But then again, it's difficult to think of somebody who could take her title. If we weren't being picky when it comes to genres and sub-genres, I would probably say Annie Lennox. But then again, I have always had difficulty categorising artists. For me, labels are for tinned food.

I think the Queen of Pop title is being determined by sales .chart hits and impact on pop culture .In any sane debate Annie Lennox has to be considered far .far more talented than Madonna .Comparing their musical talent would be like comparing the acting skills of Meryl Streep to the worst film actress imaginable which would be ..Madonna!:D

Did you ever see The Next Best Thing starring Madonna and Rupert Everett. Possibly the worst piece of cinematic trash I've borne witness to. The only consolation is Rupert Everett's involvement, though I suppose it lets him down that he actually involved himself in it in the first place. Madonna just makes me feel all wrong inside.

If you mean talent as a media manipulating ,opportunistic ,cheap shock value tart then you might be right.

That she even had the cojones to make another movie after the turkey that was Shanghai Surprise speaks to an ego the size of which is seen maybe only once a generation.Had it not been for her enormous popularity as a pop culture phenomenon she would have never been given a chance in films. She is that utterly devoid of any apparent acting ability.

Of course it stands to reason that her then husband granted her so many opportunities to err her lack of talent in his own lacklustre films. She always struck me as the one who wore the trousers in that particular relationship, as I'm sure she's the type to throw her toys out of the pram over any minor indiscretion or "no" uttered in her direction. Anything for an easy life, Mr. Richie. I'm sure a lot of her "acting" credentials fall under the umbrella of "trade on the most famous of names". I'm sure if she turned up at an audition as plain old Madonna Ciccone she would have been laughed out of the building. As for musical talent, the fact that each performance incorporates more and more heavy dance routines (I use the term dance lightly) and voice manipulation just goes to show that the talent she had has most definitely faded.

This is relevant.

Madogga and Lady Gaga are similar. In the fact that they both made a massive career out of ripping other people off. It doesn't take talent to copy people, it takes talent to pioneer, neither of these women have pioneered anything. They've just glued together some other awesome people and shouted about it, really loudly.
