City of Hope

Hi everyone.

Does anyone have a complete version of City of Hope?

How about the lyrics? I'm not having any luck.

There's a blurb in there that folllows "Sometimes when I wake up" that I can't seem to hear/figure out.

I do this a lot. I've gone years and years thinking they said one thing, and then all of a sudden I'll HEAR the right word! :o

Like on C-O-H I hear "in a hospital dress" or " in an optical mess" LOLOLOLOL
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
Thanks!

Sometimes when I wake up, well I don't think about it... not a night goes by that I don't wonder where you are.

Thanks for responding! Hmmm. That part of the lyrics I can hear.

It's the part that's right smack dab in the middle of wake up and well I don't.

Sometimes when I wake up ?????? well I don't think about

Maybe my copy is different?

Ohhh I forgot about that part! I've always heard "In her heart she goes back"

Here are the lyrics to the song. As far as we know there is no complete version of the track floating around.

City of Hope
Lyrics by S. Nicks; Music by S. Nicks, J. Piergeorge, and D. Russell

There is a legend passed down through the ages
Down through the crystal visions
Down through the crystal, clear-water fountain
The charmed ones remain
They are mine
(You remain)

Years don't really matter, it's just a matter of time
Ooh, it's just a quality of a few precious hours
And the charmed ones, no matter how bad it is
Well, I've already lost one guiding light

Sometimes when I wake up
(In her heart, she goes back)
Well, I don't think about it
(Where? To the City of Hope...)
Not a night goes by
That I don't wonder where you are

Well, I've already lost one guiding light
Yes, I've already lost one guiding light
Nothing will ever hurt me like this again
And you know in that very statement
You give it up, a little bit
Your child-like nature

Sometimes when I wake up
(In her heart, she goes back)
Well, I don't think about it
(Where? To the City of Hope...)
Not a night goes by
That I don't...

Yes, in her heart she goes back. Have I mentioned lately how much I worship this song? I don't believe a completed version has ever been circulated. It's just one of those things I've learned to accept.

I am also a COH worshipper, SapphireSister. I find the abrupt ending to be somewhat haunting. Even as one "prepares" for a loved one to pass, when it happens, it happens just like the song ending. http://im-smiley.com/imgs/sad/sad021.gif

Someone remastered it so it doesn't just end.

His name is John who did the new ending/re-edit. It's better than just the abrupt end.

The first copyright for this song is from 1982, which makes sense with Robin dying. The title listed is:

"The Charmed Ones (Song For The City Of Hope)"

There are also new copyrights in 1984, 1986, and then in 1997.

I go round and round (like a "Castaway"!) on when I think this was recorded. 1982? Definitely could be, but Stevie also sounds very 1984 whacked out of it as well.

For some reason, her vocals always made me think it must have been from around 1986. But doesn't the percussion sound like Bobbye Hall? To me, the piano is also reminiscent of the piano on The Wild Heart album (and Violet & Blue)... so probably 1984 would be my best guess too!

I adore "City of Hope" - it's one of my most favorite demos. So moving!

Looking at the lyrics posted here, I see a couple differences from what I've always thought they were. On re-listen, I agree with "child-like nature" (I had originally thought she said "child-like angel"). Learn something new every day!

Here's one I'm still undecided about....
(Where? To the City of Hope...)
I hear: "Where's this City of Hope?" (as in it doesn't really exist; her hopes were crushed)

But I'm just guessing.

mikebise 06-04-2011 01:17 PM

I used to think it was "calm beautiful child-like victim..."

sodascouts 06-04-2011 01:23 PM

I hear "child-like victim" in "All The Beautiful Worlds."

I did part of my training for Radiology Technology at City of Hope. It really is a wonderful hospital. They have the most up to date technology in medical equipment, and they pay their staff very well. I'd probably be working there now had I not moved down to San Diego after I graduated. At the time I was there, I remember seeing a plaque that Stevie had dedicated to Robin in one of the halls.

I also was able to assist in 2 autopsies while training there- that was quite the experience. Seeing something like that makes you understand that we really are a sum of working parts, like a car. It truly is the soul that makes us WHO we are.
