Boy Fights Off Bully to Save Kitten From Being Beaten to Death

Last Saturday, 9-year-old Jamarea Mills and his brothers were enjoying a sunny day at a playground in their Suffolk, Va., neighborhood.

They were petting and playing with a stray cat when a 12-year-old boy came in, grabbed the kitten, and began beating it with a log. Then he took the kitten, climbed up on a piece of playground equipment, and threw it off.

“I was sad. We tried to tell him to stop but he just kept doing it,” Mills said.

The boys watched the attack, feeling helpless to do anything about it, until the older boy took out a knife and threatened to cut the cat.

Then Mills knew he couldn’t stand by as the bully killed the kitten. In an act of incredible bravery, he ran in and took the knife away from a boy three years older than him.

“He was trying to cut the baby cat, but I smacked it out his hand,” said Mills.

Finally, the older boy left, and the children picked up the seemingly lifeless kitten and put it in a cardboard box “to cover it up so it wouldn’t get sick from the rain,” said Mills, to take it home.

An adult called the authorities, and an animal control officer came to the children’s aid. When the officer picked up the kitten, it opened its eyes and meowed.

The cat was taken to a veterinarian, where he was treated for injuries including a broken leg and a bruised abdomen and lungs. Veterinary staff expect the kitten to be medically cleared and available for adoption from a local animal shelter this Friday.

A reporter for WTKR-TV told Mills the kitten had survived the attack and is on the mend. He asked how the boy felt about the news, and he simply said, “happy.”

The 12-year-old abuser is charged with one count of misdemeanor cruelty.

Mills says he wants to be a veterinarian when he grows up. He’s off to a good start after braving a knife-wielding bully to save a kitten’s life.

Right. Save us the future expense of imprisoning and feeding him until his pending death-row execution.

Maybe some body should do the same to these thugs.pick them up and dump them on the ground and kick them.break a leg and bruised their abdomen and lungs.

My first thought was "This is why I hate little kids".

Uh, yeah. little sh*t needs to spend some time in the pokey. Unfortunately that may make him a harder criminal. Or could open his little bad a$$ eyes. Thanks to that wonderful kid <3
