A Ledgie here was an intern at Modern back then and said she saw a mock up of Bella Donna right before release, right before "Julia" was taken off the album at the last minute. I don't remember what she said about the cover.

I just did a quick compare and the only thing different I see is the CD lists "Art Direction and Photography: Herbert Worthington" the LP doesn't list that.
|
I have this on vinyl but not on CD so can't compare.

I didn't know that Julia was actually slated to be on the album, but pulled at the last minute/ Is that really true? Is that track one of the versions which are floating around among fans?
|
I'm soo glad Julia was taken off the album, the album doesn't need fluff

"Julia" is one of my fav Stevie songs, but its too similar in length and tempo to "Bella Gonna" to go on the album. Anyone know where it fit in the running order?
|
The Ledgie who interned at Modern hasn't posted the original running order, but maybe she will now! :)
No one I know has heard exactly which of the many, many versions of "Julia" was actually on Bella Donna right up to the very last minute, but it's generally agreed that it was probably "Take 5", of which there exist several mixes which sound very final or close to being final. In the Summer of 1996, Gordon Perry told me that Iovine just hated "Julia" and took it off of Bella Donna at the last minute because of his dislike for the song, much to Stevie's distress. So, in 1982, Stevie had Gordon produce a new version of "Julia" for The Wild Heart, which was recorded here in Dallas (along with "Wild Heart", "All The Beautiful Worlds", "Destiny" and "Gate And Garden"). Gordon said "Julia" is his favourite Stevie song, followed by "All The Beautiful Worlds", so he was happy to produce them. Jimmy, however, as Executive Producer of The Wild Heart, had final say on which tracks went on the album, and he axed the new version of "Julia" once again at the last minute. And again, Gordon said, Stevie was not happy. |
Belladonna
I think that the photo sessions with the Blue Lamp and the blue version of the Rhiannon outfit with the floppy cap was the original art direction for the cover. I think i may have read that the tracks were different as well, but i don't know what the original track listing could have been (somebody should post that! lol nudge nudge frmr. Modern Intern)
