Which of Stevie's albums is your favourite? - Discuss.
I apologise if this has been discussed before - but it's pretty interesting to know what you all think.
|
I love all of her albums but still chose Rock A Little as my favorite.
|
Rock A Little is definitely in my top 3 - but I have to go for The Wild Heart.
I feel the vocals on this album are more raw and organic than on any of her other albums. The emotions come out so wonderfully on all of the songs on this album :) |
my top 3 solo album by Stevie would be
1. BellaDonna 2. The Wild Heart 3.Rock A Little |
The Wild Heart just edges out Bella Donna which itself just edges out TISL + IYD.
Bella Donna + The Wild Heart are Stevie at her absolute best, solo, for her vocals alone. However, I think with Bella Donna she had to play it a little safe, so it's alittle more restrained, whilst with TWH, she could be unrestrained and still keep those amazing vocals - whilst with RAL she went too wild and her vocals suffered as a result. |
Another thread like this huh. That's ok. I love these.
My rankings. 1. Bella Donna 2. In Your Dreams 3. Wild Heart 4. TISL 5. Street Angel As good as IYD is.....IMO it will never match BD. BD just has a magical quality she's never recaptured. WH is half good. with the back half being pretty bad. RAL and OSOTM started my disappointment with Stevie so they don't rank......awful records. SA would have mad a good EP cause I only like 5 songs. TISL is OK......Could have used a trimming. Big Time. And IYD. Easily her best. And the one which came closest to recapturing that BD magic. A bit bloated. Stevie needs someone to pull her in sometimes.....And tell her.......NO:lol: Still a wonderful album. Which woke me up to her again:nod: Mick |
I chose In Your Dreams because it is the album I feel that Stevie has always wanted to record and free of all the clutter in her life, was finally able to do so. Even with Jimmy Iovine, personal crap got in the way and eventually resulted in lower standards in her music, namely lyrical issues on Wild Heart (vocals however were among her best) and then the sloppy Rock a Little. Everything about this album is great: her best writing since her early career, the production, musicianship and of course the voice. A few adventures into her best tones, the falsetto highs. That passion has not been heard of since the Wild Heart. That being said, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart will always have its place in classic rock history and for me personally defined my adolescence. Although I liked Rock a Little and The Other Side of the Mirror when they came out, neither have the lasting or redeeming quality of the earlier work and this new album and I now pan both of those dreadful albums. Street Angel and Trouble in Shangri La had moments but were clearly in a new era and if the passion had been present in her voice, may have ranked higher with me. I'm a 36 year fan of Stevie's and seen a few incredible highs and too many lows to remember, but I can say I haven't been this proud to be a fan in a very long time. This work is stellar and clearly, the best of her career.

i kno some ppl say "the wild heart" is "dated" "cheesey"..i was 21 at the time this was released...a real tough time in my life..that album...corney to say "saved my life"...but it was there to put me in a better place..saved me from making impulsive decisions which in turn could have put me in a different...worse place than i am today...so i owe this record..i owe stevie nicks..."the wild heart" kept my heart alive...if i was on a desert island and was allowed to take 1 record (cassette..haha)..this would be it...this is a 5 star piece of work for me from start to finish..i have asked to b buried w/the vinyl record...no joke

IYD is the only album of her that I can enjoy all the way through....
|
Can't pick just one, but Bella Donna, Rock a Little, Other Side of the Mirror, and In Your Dreams are in the top tier.

TWH was my favorite for many years, but now I'd rank it third after BD (a masterpiece) & RAL (fun & even more lyrically untamed than TWH).
BD has excellent production & finds Stevie''s voice in great shape. All of the choices she & Jimmy made are spot-on. And, considering that she had been working on many of the songs for years, I'm not surprised that lyrically it's her most brilliant work. So BD is my favorite. If I'm driving in my car, though, RAL is the one I reach for the most often. - Jake |
Her first three albums are all favourites of mine for different reasons. I would probably pick 'Rock A Little' for the sheer fury of Stevie's vocals, but I agree that 'The Wild Heart' has an emotional thread running through it that she has rarely achieved on any other album.

It's hard to choose - I love them all, some more than others, but it's like picking a favorite pet or child. I've bonded with all of these songs at some point or another.
I had to pull the "stranded on a deserted isle" game with the assumption that I can only have one album to listen to for the rest of my life - and I picked Rock a Little. It was my first Stevie album, the one that made me love her music and started a lifetime hobby/collection. It has the most sentimental value - it's truly THE ONE Stevie Nicks album I never want to be without. http://pixelbiscuit.com/albums/sping2009/IMG_7887.jpg |
There's a difference between her best album and my favorite. Bella Donna will probably always be her best work. But Rock A Little is my favorite. :)
