Blasphemy!! Stevie's best moments are where she harmonizes with herself.

I agree with this in most cases (especially in the RAL days), but to me she sounds flat as a pancake on the chorus of FWIW. Beautiful on the verses, though.:sorry::lol:

I LOVE Love Is Like A River - but yes, the vocals by Sharon and Lori are just silly and nearing ridiculous on that song. Whew Hooo... Doing The Best That I Can doesn't spring to mind - admittedly I don't listen to that album but maybe once a year, or once every two years. Cry Wolf is one that does stand out as having overdone backing vocals. Another terrible offender is The Nightmare. Not a lot of songs, but the fact that they stand out so much colors the entire album in my memory. There are no songs on In Your Dreams that are like these songs, thankfully.
I guess I just like backing vocals when they are subtle -

I usually like them best when they’re over the top, like on LILAR, “Nightbird”, “All the Beautiful Worlds”, etc. Where I don’t like them is on something like “Real Tears” – but in fairness, it’s not just them singing on that one.

I'm with you, and I'd further that by adding that their background & harmonies contributions are the best on IYD out of *any* of Stevie solo albums. They never over reach or overwhelm Stevie's vocals. Instead they remain as they should - more subtle in mix, and are most effective and beautiful on "You May Be The One", WSS, SL & Moonlight. Now that it's brought up, the only songs from TISL I can recall hearing Lori & Sharon are "Every Day" & POTU, otherwise I hear lots of Sheryl, Natalie, Macy & Sarah. So I guess IYD is a full circle moment for the trio to some degree as well. But mostly I wish Stevie would harmonize even more with herself. She is her own best harmony singer imo. It's still quite evident when I listen to FWIW, and other little parts throughout the record.

I’m inclined to think they flow in & out better on BD & TWH, but yes, they are pretty great on IYD.
To me what’s strange on IYD – not in a bad way, just interesting – is how they just pop up in certain parts, like in “New Orleans”, where it’s just Stevie & then they’re there, & then gone again.
